Hey guys, I was hoping some of you first gen guys could give me a bit of wisdom. I seem to be having an issue with my 2004 3.4 auto. Here are some details
    stock size tires
    4.10 gears (factory)
    Oil changes on time
Just seam foamed the vacuum lines (problem was occuring before the sea foam)
    Injectors have been cleaned
No codes besides a stupid EVAP code

So...I first noticed the issue when I wanted the truck to kick down when I was on the freeway or on ramp. The truck didnt want to kick down for some reason. I would slowly apply my foot to the floor and the RPM's would very slowly climb. No kick down even at full throttle with OD off. The only way I could get the truck to kick down would be to damn near put my foot through the floor board. If I manually put the truck into first it still seems very lazy. When the truck does decide to kick down it kicks down very well and the truck performs the way that it should. It runs through every gear perfectly and shifts hard (in a good way). I'm assuming its the TPS but after speaking with a friend theres also a "Surv" in the throttle body that can cause this?

Anyone had any experience with this? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    -Ken

It's drive by wire system. Even though it has a cable. There's a motor inside the throttle body that actually opens the butterfly. Do you have a scan tool to monitor TPS sensor while driving under these conditions?

Drive it and log it or watch tps readings. Look for abnormal readings. IE: inconsistent sweep of voltage that doesn't match what your foot is doing.

So on my way to work this morning I did a little testing. According to my scan gauage the highest tps I got was 79 with my foot mashed to the floor. I'm not sure if this is actually full throttle. The truck is just lazy /:

After digging through some other threads 79 is apparently normal

Does your truck have a transmission kickdown cable or is that also by wire?

Have you tested resistance at the TPS and APPS?
I've read situations where these etcs-i TB's cause all kinds of unexpected causations you wouldn't assume we're related to a malfunctioning TB...

The throttle is controlled with the cable into the throttle body. The transmission is by wire. I don't have the kick down cable like I wish I did

Sorry bud. Looks are deceiving. Your ecu controls your throttle. That cable is for limp-home operation.

Test the pins on your TB. You'll need a quality ohm meter and I'm sure me or somebody else can walk you through it...

Oh really? Tricky tricky Toyota. I just figured when I manually grabbed the throttle body to test to make sure the buttery fly was opening that it was cable. Thanks for the info.

I have a good multimeter. Would you happen to know the procedure?

Yes. You may need to pull the air hose intake.

I'm on my phone. Let me find the Fsm.

If anyone has the SF-28-29 pages of the 04 Fsm handy please post them.

Ya the cable twist a shaft that sweeps a position sensor and the computer moves throttle plate accordingly . If the electric motor fails you can get a little bit of mechanical throttle movement all the way to the floor. (30% i think) Enough to get ya home.
