OK. I have had my 2016 taco sr5 for 6 months 7 k miles. I have had the noise valve tapping sound. since day one. Dealer checked it multiple times saying its normal. It was so loud, my wife said " what the heck is with your motor?" So it was quite noisy. I traded it in. I bought a 2017 TRD off road. It makes no engine valve tapping type noise at all. So....I am officially calling toyota motor company out on this!! total BS on "its the injector cleaner making that noise" it would increase with rpms. just plain annoying!! Dear toyota. please send me a check for the 6 grand i spent to upgrade my vehicle. I love tacos...have since 1996

It did it from day 1? On the test drive? Did you re-buy from the same dealer? SMH

Yes. I have bought 15 cars from the dealer. I ordered the truck. didn't drive it before delivery. I drove a demo one before ordering....lesson learned. i took this one on a 50 mile drive.

jimmy jam; I totally agree with you , Toyota will tell the customers its normal ( everything ) and make dealership verify it.

That's the first OR model I've seen with the sport wheels on it, or are they from the SR5? They don't look 17". I like it!

thanks. Pretty frustrating. I knew I loved everything about the truck. The noise i wasn't that concerned with......just wrong that it actually isn't "normal" and they just say that the way it was designed...no tsb...no nothing

You put sport wheels on a OR? Looks good with your color of truck.

Wow, with that kind of business I'd think that dealer would do just about anything to accommodate you. like an over nite test drive perhaps. In any case good luck with the new wheels. Good looking truck. Hope it's trouble free.

I think you're being paranoid dude. Are you a mechanic?...You can definitely notice the rpm surge, noise, etc. when in idle with a/c running and the injectors go through cleaning. But keep wearing your foil hat, the 17 motor is totally better and different than the 16...

You'll get it soon enough. The forums is entertaining for the most part and informative, but you'll have to come in with a thicker skin and weed through some nonsense at times.

That tapping-like sound also comes from the HP fuel pump as noted by many. They say it chirps though. There's also some vids on YouTube showing this. @TacoFister had a post about it too. Might want to click his name and search his posts for details and see if you had something similar. It's not isolated to any level of trim. I think it affects anything with the V6 in it, if I recall in the reading.

Funny you mention this. Yes I have been a mechanic for 20 years and then went to school for radiology. I know that dwell is the degrees the distributor cam turns when the points are closed lol. So yeah I know my way around cars quite well. I obviously must keep my foil for hats in the Kitchen.
