Alright thanks for the information. So I should definitely be good to go if I pick up the 4runner A340F transmission? We're are talking about a difference of

$400 dollars from a transmission out of a Tacoma and 4Runner although they are the same. I think it's because tacomas are in such high demand here.

    Too much but not enough!
I heard something where the speed sensor on a 4Runner transmission is different on a tacoma transmission. I heard either the speed sensor cable has to be extended or ive heard something with speed gears being messed with or something

I'll concur - had to extend the VSS cable and locate a different tooth count gear for the sensor. Pretty easy actually...

Hey, Thanks for the info. Will the VSS cable off the Tacoma transmission and tooth count gear for the sensor swap to the 4runner tranny? do you have pictures? Thanks

What happens if you don't get the new gear but extend the cable?

Then your speedometer will be off. The gear is just used to adjust the output of the VSS

Great answers gentleman . I think you managed to get the OP fixed up and he is now in the proper direction . Strange that the same transmission out of a Tacoma is $400 bucks more than the Forerunner ?

Fresh pan gasket and clean the filter
    Fresh pump seal
    Fresh transfer case seal
    New transmission fluid
New transfer case fluid with fresh rtv gasket
Cooler douche for the cooling system http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/LBG1/19001/N0444.oap
Fresh grease in the universal joints
He should be good to go :amen:

Ok so I'm gonna sound like a total newb (which I am but hey learning as I go) but I need to know what all these wires are on my transmission. They're all clustered into a long thick black mass of wires that whoever took the tranny out cut

Pulled the transmission pan from my truck, still working on getting replacement and removing old tranny. But this is what I found in pan. Looks like one bolt and some kind of extension part?? But not good!!

Considering what I see laying in the pan , try bolting the detent spring back up and take your truck for a ride . With that spring outta place , there would have been cross leaks in the pressurized oil flow and the transmission wouldn't know what gear it was in .
Not sure if the metallic sound you were hearing will be gone ,but might be worth a try unless you are far beyond this step by now

I am more concerned with the chunk of what looks to be a roll pin laying on your center magnet . Clean that up and try to determine what it is

Do you think I should just get gasket or should I get filter as well?? If it don't work can always use filter in new tranny?
