Looking for a used Tacoma for my soon to be 16 yr. old daughter. The biggest worry I have (other than price) is about the frame. Will a VIN search in the Toyota owner's site give me information about the recall/inspection/replacement status of any particular Tacoma?

    Easy answers:

There are no active frame related recalls for any "2nd generation" ('05 to '15), or 1st or 3rd generation Tacomas.
There is an active class action suit regarding frame rust issues on '05 to '11 Tacomas. The final order/final judgement for this suit is currently scheduled for June 26, 2017. This suit has nothing to do with specific VINs; the class is Tacoma owners who purchased their vehicle prior to December 2, 2016. (read more about that here)

This of course means you and/or your daughter would not be considered class members for any not-yet-purchased '05 to '11 Tacoma.

AFAIK that's where the rusty framed Tacoma situation now sits--to my mind this reduces dramatically the value of any '05 to '11 Taco not having a rust-free or damned close to rust-free chassis. If you buy one make sure it came from someplace that DOES NOT slather the roads with salt in the winter months. My '09 DCSB lived in Florida its whole life and looks like new underneath...

yes... not sure about the inspection part or if it was a spray job, but a replacement frame will show up
