Brake whine while idling

'04 V6 2wd A/T, with the engine idling there's a high pitch whine coming on the booster side of the compartment.
Pressing the brake pedal the whistle gets low & depressing the pedal it gets high again. Vacuum hose causing the whine ?

 

Nope booster is bad.

don't waste your time on used ones, our trucks are just too old for that, I got a used one and it worked for a month and not it has issues too so im back needing to replace it again not worth trying to save money on an item like this, especially when it involves weather your brakes work when you need them or not

 

Keakar makes a good point here, assuming that the booster is, in fact, the issue.

BUT . . . . I've never had a booster failure in any vehicle of mine (and I'm an old fart), so I would have to be certain it was the issue before dropping $$$ on a new one.

if this were mine, I'd first replace the booster with one from a pull-a-part wrecking yard (about $25), just for diagnosis purposes. If it fixed the problem, then run it until it fails, then get a new one (~900), like KEAKAR did.

To narrow it down to the booster, have you tried disconnecting the booster vacuum line from the intake, and plugging that port?

 

Dropped it off to have the mechanic look it over. Found a reman booster w/labor $500+ if that is the problm.

 

Booster was bad, reman part + labor $575, better than the dealer.

 

that wasn't terrible but it takes 30 minutes to replace with just 6 bolts (4 under the dash and 2 for the master cylinder) and the brakes don't even need bleeding after because the brake lines don't need to be disconnected.

glad you got it sorted and it wasn't that bad a price if your not able to do it yourself

Definitely worth the labor charge, never changed out a booster b4 but good to see a write up just incase.
