Hi, I'm new here and hoping you all could help me out.

Are any of you having leak issues with your ARE cap? I have the X-series on my "16" Tacoma and it leaks like crazy! I'm on my 2nd cap, the 1st cap the ARE dealer couldn't get the front window to seal so they replaced it for me. The new cap I think is leaking through the 1/2" gap on the corners of the back window causing the bed rail areas to be saturated with water.

Is there anyone else having similar issues with their ARE? Is there a brand that doesn't leak?

    Thanks
    Brian

    Poor install?

My dealer fashioned "skirts" made from colored tape, to redirect the water past the two openings in the bed. Not a single drop in the bed since getting my V-series 2 months ago. We've had a shitload of rain, too.

No pictures, sorry. I watched the entire install (small shop), but now they cannot be seen.

These trucks' beds are tough to seal. My Leer dealer tried three times and failed mieserably. I finally removed the cap & sealed everything myself, and then only the windoors leaked. Then the cap shifted around a tad and the sealants I applied tore. Now it still leaks in both front corners. Both windoors leak not only through the perimeter seals, but also through the sliding windows inside them.

If guys are saying all there shells don't leak there wrong. They all do and the shell manufacturers are aware of this because its a toyota bed design that allows it to happen. They say they don't leak because they don't know it yet. I have a brand new ARE z series and it went back 3 different times and the dealer said he found out out from the Leer rep that it was the bed rail cap where it meets the cab...and yes I said Leer although I own an ARE because they sell both. Besides the small openings in each corner that leak(minor) compared to the drenching soaked filled carpet along the slider windows on the side, they removed the bed rail cap and laid a heavy bead of silicone and put the bed rail cap back on. This was corrected over a wk ago and it has corrected 85% of the issues. The water seams to roll down the cab end window and leach its way through the openings whited ended up soaking the carpet along the sliders all the way down to my ass end. I still have minor leaks but nothing compared to the major issue. Now we have had some rain and a little snow since then, and it has not replicated the severity of what i had prior to them fixing it, but I will follow up when weather permits.

How would I not know my cap was leaking? I mean it's been raining here for the last 3 days or so and I went to the car wash a few days before that... And the bed is dry. I have no carpet in my cap or bed to wick water so maybe that's the difference?

Same here. My PRO sits outside. Been pouring in CA, not a drop of water in bed.

I was actually warned about this from the installing tech, which is why I've been paying close attention. This way I can report it immediately and get it dealt with, but again I tell you ... not a single drop as of yet. They haven't had enough complaints to change their install process for the Tacoma, I suppose.

Its quite possible your dealer was aware of this and properly sealed it, but I was at my Toyota dealership and they even shared with me that this was a common occurrence between all the shell manufacturers.

Canopy West in Surrey installed my Overland Series ARE about six months ago. I was allowed to watch the whole procedure as it was Sat, and I was BS'ing with the installer/manager. He filled the front box corner gaps with some seal gasket and then sealant. No leaky at all. Interior dry as a bone. And anyone who knows the LML knows we get more than our fair share of the wet stuff.

Part of my install included a Tacoma gasket. Dunno if it's different than others installation.

    Thanks for all the replies!

Here's a little history on my cap:

When I first got my cap ALL the widows leaked! The dealer pulled the cap off and checked all the seals and worked on the widows.

Next rain storm 3 windows leaked. Took it back in and he worked on it some more.

Next rain storm front, back windoor, and drivers still leaked. Took it back in and he decided to swap out the front window and the side window with new.

Next rain storm, front window STILL leaking, windoor too. Took it back in and he ordered me a new cap with different style side windows that are supposed to be water tight.

Next rain storm, front window dry and side windows maybe? The water is is coming from the 1/2" gaps on both corners of the windoor and possibly traveling all the way to the front of the cap through the carpet. What makes be think this is there is less water the further away from the windoor you get. But it could be leaking UNDER the bed rail caps like some of you have mentioned.

The windoor is a VERY poor design with the large gaps on the corners, I'm taking my pickup back in tomorrow for further inspection. I'll pass along some of the ideas I've seen here to my dealer.

    Thanks!
    Brian

I had a lot of leaks with my ARE. It was coming from both side windows. One had a bad seal and the other was manufactured wrong and weaped inside instead of outside. ARE sent new windows and they were installed here at the dealer. Now the seal was fixed, but both windows still leaked from the frame. Cap was removed and sent back to ARE. They replaced the windows again. This now has fixed the windows leaking. The only place I have water coming in is at the front corners. Just a little bit. Both corners were sealed pretty good, but i understand the Tacoma beds are hard to fully seal. Water also comes in from the 2 storage compartments on the bed sides.

Lear here and I've had leaking issues since it was installed 2/2016. Three new sets of side windows, entirely new topper and couldn't figure out the leak... had a friend look at it and it turns it the water is leaking in under the bed rail caps. Anyone else have this issue??

I noticed the tie downs I keep in the compartments get covered in mud and road grime. It looks like there are holes in the compartment that go straight through, not sure how but there is plenty of mud making its way through them in mine.
