When in doubt you can always download the map data of where you're traveling to. This will be stored on your phone and wouldn't require a cellular or wifi connection when using the maps app. Works on google maps anyway.

I hate that the wheels have to be still to make any Nav inputs. Annoying

So far, just a Hard Hat tonneau cover. Looking for mud guards and nerf boards.
My Garman Nuvi sucks. It can't find my house and I've lived here 15 years. My Taco nav system works much better.

Did you try updating it? Never had a problem with our Garmin.

is Google maps sufficient for you? because if it is, and if you have a big enough sd card in your phone, you can download your maps for offline use. if this doesn't solve your problem then more info, please!

My only complaint is the outdated traffic or at the very least not capable of routing around it like Google Maps can. Though to be fair, Google has a fairly huge leg up on the Entune system due to the real time updates and huge user base. That link mentioned earlier by @Spare Parts seems pretty awesome. Just wish it passed touch input. Even though Google Maps is better, I refuse to use it due to principle. I will not touch my phone while driving. Thank goodness for voice commands.

Google maps that work with the GPS in my truck would be awesome.
Thats kind of how BMW does it. It had satellite mode, like google earth, and there wasn't a road or goat trail that it didn't show.
I don't need a GPS to show me where I live, I know where I live. I want to know where Im going when Im off road with no cell coverage.

I just recently pulled out one of my old cell phones and put Here Maps on it. Lets you download whatever maps you want and use offline. Turn off mobile data and wifi, but leave gps on, boom, mini gps for free.

I was actually impressed with the amount of forest roads it shows here in the AZ rim country.

BOOM! Google maps also lets you download offline maps, but it's by highlighted area, and by route. Apple Maps... IDK... It'll get you killed I hear.

    Your unbelievable you know that?
You've got one of the best trucks on the road and all you do is complain about it, but its got one of the worst mapping systems there is, and you are praising it.

Yeah the Google maps is fine if you're not trying to download a lot of area. It only lets you D/L a certain amount of data. Sure would be nice If it allowed more.

Can do multiple areas, but yea by state or larger area would be better.

There is a thread or a you tube video about replacing the unit with a tablet. Which sounds like the best plan and the tablet is the same size as the head unit just not as deep.

I just completed a 22 day road trip down the east coast. The GPS worked perfect in both the big cities and rural areas.

IMHO google maps on smartphone sucks balls. Fine if you are on a desktop where you have the option to do route changes and quickly see the route but horrible on the smartphone where itll give you a route that takes you out to the boonies and back just to save you 5 minutes on a 4 hour drive. Meanwhile youre traveling some dirt road with no gas station for a few hundred miles all because you dont have much choice to change the route on the fly without literally driving the way you want to use and having it recalculate.

Here maps is better in all aspects and has better offline backup than google. Google seriously needs to put their CS dept in a car and have them work the maps from the driver/passenger seat. All the standalone units are also better in terms of useability but less so on some of the updated info.
