I noticed a lot of you have derped or painted the lower front bumper cap. I think it looks better black, especially on a white sport.

So, if you've done this, how did you do it?
Tape/mask off or remove the cap to do it?
    How does the cap remove?
Did you use paint or derp?

    Thanks.

    Not my pics, just examples...

The off-road is like that from the factory. The sport is color matched.

Mask off the surrounding area of the front cap with some vinyl or bunch of newspapers and spray away. There have been some posts about people doing this with their front bumper cap and/or fender flares.

Ok, I could do that. You think derp or paint? I'm thinking that rock chips will flake paint maybe. Or I guess I could just buy an OR cap...

I took a cursory look at it, didn't see any visible fastners so thinking blind clips/retainers. Haven't looked too hard for an exploded view schematic yet...

From the bottom? then a row of tabs at the top?

Yep. I'll probably F this up and break the tabs... but I'll try in a little bit. I'd prefer to remove it to derp it if it's that easy.

OK, here's the deal, it's a two beer removal...
No bolts, all plastic tabs. Top and bottoms are easy. On each end is a clip with a blue plastic retainer to remove. Lower corner each side has a bigger plastic tab hidden beneath a body strut. Easiest to remove grill (2 bolts, 2 retailer clips) and the left and right air dams behind it (each has one retailer clip and a few barbed through-hole clips).

Remove grill plus left & right air dams
    [IMG]

Remove the blue retainer clip from each side and release the hidden tabs underneath the body struts
    [IMG]

Release the plastic tabs along the bottom and top (didn't get a top picture, same idea as bottoms)

    Have fun.

Derp. If you paint it, you'd have to sand down the original paint, prime it, and then it would still chip pretty easily. Derping is great, it's pretty chip resistant and it comes off pretty easy if you don't want it on anymore. I derped my grill about 6 months ago and it still looks great.

You can also just buy the part itself. That's what I ended up doing. Dealership drilled 4 holes into it and I just replaced it. Cost around 88 bucks, but no more holes and black like I wanted.

Can I ask where you bought the part for $88? This is the lower valiance, right?
