Does anyone know of a reputable CB Installer in the Los Angeles area ?

There is a family owned shop in Montebello called CB Radio Viking that has been great to work with in the past but I'm not sure they would know how to tackle a clean install on a newer truck.

I'm sure I could tackle the job of drilling a few strategical holes and routing the wire but I don't know enough about tuning and electronic setup in regards to the CB to have a logical plan.

Would be nice to find a knowledgeable shop to do a turn key install.

Hmmmm, indicating ant is too short. Not much can be done in this case. Where is your ant located and can you possibly move it to a different location? Do you have a good ground contact as well? A picture MIGHT help???

Since both readings are fairly decent though, I wouldn't really worry too much about it. I'm only saying this because all that tells me is that ch20 will be below a 2.0 as well, which is a good thing!!! My guess, ch20 should be around 1.5? It's a guess, but this is based off of your readings and more to the point of what I'm getting at, you are still going to be below 2... or you SHOULD be. However, with that said, I do understand that it would be nice to have the radio ant system setup to where the readings are roughly the same on about ALL channels.

    Also, "0.2"? Shouldn't there be a "1" instead of a "0"??? :notsure:

LOL, I've been up since 1am?! :annoyed: So, my thinking isn't all too clear at the same time!!! :bored::frusty:

My first setup was a Cobra 75WXT. I had the exact cable, Firering, mount, spring, quick disconnect and antenna and my SWR was less than 1 and very balanced between channels 1 and 40.
I switched out the Cobra for the Uniden 520XL because I didn't like the "feel" of the Cobra 75's mic/combo. It was just to big and heavy for me.
Why would the SWR be so different when all I did was change out the head unit?
I will check the ground again today. I'll scrape more paint at the mount point and also add a ground wire from mount to frame.
And yes, the reading was 0.2
    Thanks!

Ohhh, okay. Yeah, agreed that just changing the head unit is a bit odd??? If I remember correctly, you no longer have the COBRA, correct? Also, admittedly I was hesitant to blame the Francis because I haven't come across with hearing a similar issue with them and I know I don't. Makes me want to recheck my setup, but, again, my shi* is scattered ALL OVER God's creation right now because my move didn't quite go as smoothly as I had hoped!!! :frusty::goingcrazy:

Anyways, yeah, I wish I was there to be able to help troubleshoot!!! Maybe from manuf to manuf a radio will react a bit different from one another, but by THAT much is beyond me???!!! As far as I'm concerned, to a radio's output, in this case an 11m freq band, 11m is 11m... as far as from one radio to the next, the antenna is the same to all of them???!!! So, again, agreeing with you that why would it change so dramatically?! :notsure:

Seriously wish I could help other than "text" bro!!! :(:pout:

I'm gonna beef up the ground with a ground strap directly to frame and re-check SWR.

I'm wondering if it is something with the GND? :notsure::confused:

The thing that kills "ME" is that he just changed the "head unit", meaning the CB... well, shi*, you know what I mean, HAHAHAHA!!! That's what's kill'n me about all of this? If the SWR readings were fine before and just by changing the CB unit, it ALL goes to hell in a hand basket, doesn't make any sense??? o_O:confused::notsure::frusty:

Maybe not seating right when he puts the end on? What I would do is grab the other cb and verify. Then switch to new one and check again. Is the SWR switch on cb on SWR not on something else? If all is good. Maybe the radio is no good?
Just have both side by side and check.

I don't think he has the other unit anymore? That would be the best thing to do, which is why I stated the same/similar question a few posts back. Either way, I guess, we will just have to wait and see WTHeck is going on when he reports back.

LOL, the suspense is KILLLLLING ME!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!:rofl::rofl:

Sorry guys for killing ya on the wait. LOL.

I had to do some pre-Blizzard prep around the house and with all the vehicles.

Finally got to the antenna issue at 10PM ....

It WAS the GROUND gents. The bolt that attached my antenna mount to my rear bedside corner was slightly loose.

I removed the entire mount, wire brushed all contact points with my drill attachment and then re-tightened the two bolts. I'll add lock washers to the bolts at a later time.

    SWR readings are now a beautiful 1.0 (Ch 1) and 1.5 (Ch 40) and 1.2 (Ch 19)

    Thanks guys!!!!!

The one in Montebello doesn't seem too professional, I was referred to Milo over at New Age Audio in Anaheim, I heard he has lots of experience installing CB's and HAM. Check them out too.

Deleted the Cobra 75 and reinstalled my venerable "been cross country with it" Uniden 510. The color is about a perfect match for the interior. It's small enough to not cause issues with passenger legroom. Paired with a Wilson 'Little Wil'.

I don't normally leave the mic installed, only when I am using it.
