I agree my Tacoma shifts gears to much. It's an automatic tranny,V6.
I wish toyota would re-program this truck. It also gets horrible gas mileage. 17 on the freeway. what happened to 23 on the freeway. I like the truck though. I drove a first generation for 18 years until I bought this truck. The 2016 feels like a sports car compared to the 98. So I can't really complain, to much. Hope Toyota can come up with a fix.

Sound a lot like me, OP.

I drove my '89 from 1994 through March 2016. I love most things about my new TRD Sport but it would be even better if the gas mileage was higher and the auto shift was improved.

The rest, as you said, is a great improvement.

Rev 1 update helped my 2016 offroad allot. before the update I got 17 mpg combined and 19 was best freeway couldn't get higher than that. After the update I get 18-19 combined and flat freeway at 55-60 23-24 mpg. 70 I get 22 mpg. I do run mid grade Chevron California gas and stock v-6 automatic, no lift, stock driveline and tires.

Regular Chevron gas mileage was low and inconsistent. I have a very consistent daily route and no where is consistently flat. The first update was an improvement, the second update gave me the truck they promised. Still a low speed gutless wonder but now its consistent.
Now if they can get rid of the brake clunk in the drive line when you stop that would be nice.

You drive the truck too fast/hard. I got heavier tires, no air-dam, rock sliders, and can milk 22mph+ on the highway. Drive this thing faster than 70mph and it'll drink gas. Drive 65 and it'll do pretty good if you milk it.

You probably won't see much in the way of changes to the shift program.
