First off, long time reader, first time poster. I've had my 2012 4x4 Tacoma TRD TX Pro for about two years now and I recently hit a deer. I live in a rural area so I was looking into replacing it with a steel bumper. I know there are numerous options and I wanted to go with Pilfreybilt but I really cannot wait 4-6 weeks for the bumper. I called and I am waiting to hear from Tyler as to the actual time it would take. That being said, with a TRD TX Pro, would I need to do any suspension upgrades to handle the additional weight? If so, what would be the best option? I talked to ARB and they can have one to me within a week but I know they're on the heavy side.

    Thanks,
    Joe

    Bump...

I know people have said you may need to upgrade the suspension, but I also know there are a lot of different factory suspensions. Just curious if mine would need to be beefed up.

    Thanks,
    Joe

You'll probably notice more body roll in the corners. It might sag some. 2012 OE shocks are probably getting tired also. Are you considering an aluminum bumper?

Hey Man I have the exact same truck but in a 2011. Yes, you will probably need an aftermarket suspension to run a bumper like that so you do not bottom out your suspension going over bumps or daily driving. The TX TRD Pro has the same suspension as the offroad(Unless a Baja or a pro).... as in its normal nothing special. I have a Icon stage 2 with Total Chaos UCA's. Coilovers 650# rate and rear resi with a Add a Leaf. I just order a hybrid bumper and will have to increase my coil rate as well. I would look into a OME, Bilstien , or wanting to go all out the big three (with a 700# coil) if running a bumper like that.

Long story short go OEM bumper. Buy a suspension and then bumper...

Im running an arb on the factory suspension and i just hit a deer last week. Brushed it off and kept going, didnt hurt a thing. I would recommend upgrading your suspension.. i notice mine nosedives in situations where slamming the brakes is necessary. That being said though, i have 215k miles on my truck (all of it on stock suspension) and have been running the ARB on it about 30k miles so far without any problems.

Any suggestions of all inclusive "kits" I could buy and bring to a local shop? I am 100% suspension ignorant.

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...ilstein-adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks/

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...ss-suspension-system-2005-2015-toyota-tacoma/

Am I on the right track with these? I don't want to go to the shop and ask them to slap something together, like I said, I don't know anything about suspension and I don't want to get hosed. I would like to be able to go in with everything I need and just have them install the suspension. 3" lift should be sufficient (I think) I am trying to stay under $1500. Stupid deer is costing me more and more...

I had never worked on suspension before a couple months ago. These trucks are simple to work on with basic hand tools and tutorials. Well worth the money saved in my opinion! Of course, you may have more adept mechanics in your area. I can't even think of anyone i would let work on my rig around here. Regardless of cost.

I may research install videos on YouTube. Gotta love YouTube. I just don't want to get started and not have all of the parts I need. I'd hate to have to wait for parts to come in after I have started the project.

So, I'm looking at these two-

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...ilstein-adjustable-lift-kit-with-5100-shocks/

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...ss-suspension-system-2005-2015-toyota-tacoma/

If I go with the 5100s should I get the Dakar rear springs 2"? 2.5'? Sorry for all of the questions. I'm just trying to "buy once cry once". After the Dakar springs added to the 5100 kit they seem to be around the same price point. All tips, tricks and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Joe

Put my Icon and TC UCA's on with myself and a friend... 3 ton Jack and Stands along with basic hand tools and a torque reading tool to meet factory specs and you should be good to go.

Old Man Emu - 888 Coils front and back shocks with a Deaver leaf sping pack or Darkars would be good for you. If you're not wanting to go all out. Talk to headstrong they'll help you out. Remember anything close to 3 inches you really start to mess with factory components and then will need a UCA like a LR or JBA.

how does a tx pro have a higher front end if the suspensions are the same? Im trying to find out if putting 5100s all around on my tx pro (due to sagging in the back) will put it back to level.

Leaf springs actually help lift the back end of your truck. The suspension component just help articulate shock and bump absorption on/off-road. Yes it lifts some but not a lot
