I just bought a brand new 2017 tacoma about a month ago. Last week two shingles blew off my house roof and landed on the truck roof. Dented and scratched down to the metal.

They need to repaint the roof. Makes me sick to have it painted this early. I am going through the dealer and insurance will cover repair. My question, will the body shop paint hold up like factory? It has a lifetime warrentee they said. They are reputable shop.

I don't think anyone will notice if you use a paint touch up pen on those lines.

If done right will probably be equal or better than factory. Check the shop. How long has painter been doing his job. Check the paint booth. Does it have inlet air filters to minimize particulates? Does the air line have a particulate filter attached to it?

Who is their paint vendor? Do they follow proper mixing? digital scale with mix ratios?

I thought about it. I am not concerned with looks to much since it is on roof. I just worry about rust down the road.

    Vinyl wrap the roof?
Body shop will be hit or miss, completely down to the dealer. Could be 10x better than factory, or 3x worse. My personal history with dealer body shops have the right equipment, but not well trained (or lazy / careless) personal. They are also working to crappy insurance labor rates, and it shows. I don't use them anymore and go to independent shops. Usually the insurance won't cover the complete labor cost of quality shops, so you may need to work that. The absolute worst place you can go is a body shop owned by the insurance company.

I would just PDR it, buff out what will, touch up the rest and call it good.

I just had a 3 inch scratch and dent in my door.... I am feeling the same way you are. I called around and have estimates ranging from 300-700. They have to paint my whole door or it will look like I have a spot. I think youre in better shape as its on the roof and will be easy to blend with nothing around it to compare to.

I just had to let it go. I was so pissed. You cannot miss mine, its like right in your face at the door handle level. Make peace with it. haha or try to.

A new truck is only new until it's first scratch/dent. Then it's used and just live with it like avitaco said.

Lift it 6 inches no one can see it!

I took my truck to a dealer body shop and they ended up doing a great job. Can't even tell there was a dent and only thing that tipped me off that it has had a paint job is the factory clear 3m piece toward the bottom rear of the cab was removed and they didn't replace it.

They did get overspray all over my driver side rear window though which sucked ass cause I didn't notice it until a day or 2 later and just went ahead and removed it myself.

Funny...bought a new 4 runner back in the early 2000's, about a month after I got it, we had the worse hail storm you ever saw. I fixed the had the hood fixed and pocketed the rest for a lift:)
