Toyota will likely have more than sentences and feelings behind their suggested interval. Probably some testing and analysis. What's your basis?

$28? I think I might do this for my next change. Probably try out the Subaru too.

Edit: I just requested the two kits.

Here is a repost of a post I put up in Jan 2017 . Anyone who wondered about having to change the oil at 12 months even though they only have a few 1000 miles on it.
Note , when you send a sample in there is an extra charge if you want the extra test to see how much life is left in the oil as I did in the tests below.

I have read a lot about this . Every oil manufacturer says to change it after 1 year. Long story short , I have a 2000 Honda Sabre motorcycle that I had not changed the oil on for 8 years . During this time , I put 2000 miles on the bike . When I drained it , I sent a sample to Blackstone for analysis and I only described it as over 1 year old and 2000 miles. I wanted to find out if the 1 year life span was true. They sent back the results and said it had plenty of life left in it. Run it for another 3000 miles and send in another sample.
I no longer worry about 1 year life span ! Just run it long enough once in a while to heat it up good , a 20 trip or more.

I just got my first free oil change at 1450 miles. I got it under the 10,000 miles or one year maintenance which ever comes first. I've had my truck for one year. I asked them not to rotate the tires because I feel they should not rotate them until the 5,000 mile point.

Oil and filter change were done without question.

At 1450 miles per year I don't think rotating tires is going to matter. They'll be due for replacement from age or dry rot before you need worry about uneven tread wear... :)

    Stock and staying that way
It would only matter if those miles were 1/4 mile at a time, like 1,400 quarter mile passes including shut down, return road, pits, & burnout. ;)

Are you living in the USA? Ok nothing is free... you already paid for the oil changes when you bought the truck.

Buy some Toyota oil/filter and get someone or yourself to change the oil... and keep the receipt to prove it.

I asked the dealer to change my oil and lube @ 5K miles... "did you change my oil and lube it"... no they aren't due until 10K miles.. and the lube 15K..

    Whole bunch of shit! $$$
My basis is the fact that in 2015 in 2nd gen Tacomas,... with the same exact engine (2TR-FE)<~~ this is the 4 banger, mind you were at a 5k OCI's ..all of a sudden with "toyota care free maintenance".....it is now at 10k OCIs just 2 short years later.....? Just my opinion, but Toyota is jipping you on oil changes with this toyota care nonsense just 2 years later.

What I remind the service advisor is most of the maintenance schedules have mileage or time limits, whichever comes first.
I generally hit the month limit before the mileage limit on my vehicles.

Blackstone is a great service, I've had my aircraft oil tested by them for 20 years. The comments are always as if an old friend is chatting with me.
