My gen 2 MPG sucks. I can squeeze out 19 or 20 if I am on flat land (Not much of that here in Co/Wy without a headwind). In town I get about 14 mpg to 16 mpg. Better MPG would be nice but I have the title in my name so I am ok with spending a little more in gas.
It's no secret Toyota could get way more power and better MPG than currently offered. However that would require additional cost and complex componentry that Toyota tries to avoid in their trucks for the sake of reliability.

Global corporations targeting international markets will not change their overall strategy based on a short-term loosening of regulations in one market. Smaller, more efficient, more powerful engines have been developed and deployed for years. Rolling that back would be folly.

Because it's a corn lobby thing now. It takes more energy to make the ethanol than is displaced by the ethanol dilution of the fuel.

That doesn't even consider the loss of fuel economy from an E fuel.

The initial intention was good, breaking away from foreign dependency on fuel, using a renewable resource. But those problems have been overcome, and the large farm aggregate lobby (not small farmers) don't want to let go of gvmt subsidized growing and 'forced' sales.

Especially when the medical community is beating corn up from the syrup and other content.

Smaller and more powerful does not always equal smaller and more powerful. You can get more peak HP from a small engine that runs super high RPM's but at low, everyday RPM's, it will be a dog. The only replacement for displacement is forced induction and it will be a long time before Toyota adopts that in their Tacoma.

Technology is a pretty decent replacement for displacement. The 5.0 in my 1984 Bronco made around 140 hp. Dropping that old tech engine into a Gen 2 Tacoma won't make it faster than the 4.0 that came installed from the factory.

Not for anything but I've never run out of engine in my race truck. I've run out of suspension, but not engine.

Same reasons as post #32. Using Ethanol has also risen the cost of food in grocery stores. It also causes the gasoline to separate and turn to water making it bad for storing. And it is also particularly hard on small engines and older vehicles that were not designed to run on Ethanol.

I believe you have that ratio confused with your compression ratio.
