Have a 2002 Tacoma 2.7 liter and after replacing the head and putting the engine back together, the engine was frozen probably because of the heavy rains that happened while the head was off. Took the head back off and unfreeze the Pistons. Now I am trying to get the timing chain on the sprocket and it won't go on. Is it necessary to pull the timing chain cover off to get the chain on?

Actually, I am writing this post because I am scared my boyfriend is going to chop off his head with the contraption he has rigged up over his motor in order to force the chain onto the sprocket. Then I will have a boyfriend with no head and still a broken truck. The truck could become yard art I guess, but would not know what to do about the beheaded boyfriend. Please help because he is stubborn ed and all information that I have thus far come up with,he says does not pertain to this particular truck engine.
Thank you and any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Pictures of said contraption needed. Others ingenuity is great to see sometimes. And also good at showing what not to do ;). Shouldn't be that hard to put on. Removal of cover is needed.

You need to put the chain on first. Then put the sprocket on the camshaft. (you may have to put the crankshaft sprocket & cam sprocket on at the same time) Unlike a bicycle chain you can get started and rotate the sprocket.
