How can I fit 285/70r17 on 2006 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4?

I recently purchased a 2006 Tacoma and it came with 265/70r17 BF Goodrich All Terrain tires that will need to be replaced soon. I am selling my 2004 GMC Sierra that has 285/70r17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on it and would like to swap the tires between the trucks to avoid having to purchase new tires right away. I plan on purchasing a lift in the future (which I know would fit the 285's) but in the meantime just want to avoid buying new tires until that happens. What is the cheapest/best way to make the 285's fit on the Tacoma? Thank you all for your help!

Multiple ways to skin this cat.

I'm running that size and I'm running:
    Bilstein 5100 shocks
    OME 887 coils
    JBA Upper Control Arms
1.5 progressive add a leaf in the rear.

This setup is gonna run around a grand but it results in an excellent ride quality. Of course there are many less expensive options like strut spacers but they often result in a harsher ride.

My bad. Didn't read your post thoroughly.

If you wanna run 285s with no lift you will need wheel spacers and an arsenal of cutting tools.

:sawzall: You will need to cut up your fenders, and do the cab mount chop :welder: this will help with clearance. You'll also need wheel spacers since that size tire will rub the UCAs

I am running that wheel/tire size and still had rubbing after cab mount chop and roughly 3" lift. Get the lift or some cheap spacers if you really want to do it now. More work to try and make it fit now.

Call Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road. Do the lift. Swap your tires.

Your tire savings will offset most of the cost of the lift, especially

    1) if you install the new gear yourself

    2) if you lose nothing in selling your Sierra with worn out undersized tires.

    3) if you have a shop that will cut you some slack (or a lot of slack) on the tire work. You're looking at 8 dismounts, 8 mounts, 8 balances. About $200 bucks around here.

Throw the tires on and cut and pound everything out of the way. When you get your lift it will be done already.
