I have a 2014 TRD Sport and am rigging up something to haul a 100 lb. propane tank upright. It necessitates it being pulled up tight against the closed tailgate. I understand all of the cautions about trusting the tailgate :), I was just wondering if anyone has ever actually seen or read the engineering specs on the tailgates where it says how much weight or force they can hold.

Ive had 250lbs on it. It didn't deform, but I wasn't trusting it 100%. I upgrade shortly after that with a Relentless Fab tailgate reinforcement.

Thanks for the "real world" information! That helps. There is a 2x6 between the tank and the tailgate to spread the force some. I guess the thing I'm wondering most about is the latches giving way under load. I'm guessing it's engineered well enough that the tailgate would bend before that happened. I'm taking the tank to get filled tomorrow, so I'll post some pics of my "engineering" and let everyone know if it winds up being one of those things you read about and think, "What was that guy thinking?".
