    Hi all,

I was about to load some debris from my home repair, then I noticed I could not open the tail gate. I can insert the truck key into the key hole of Pop & Lock and rotate counter clock-wise (or clock-wise). But I cannot open the tail gate. The bed is currently not accessible as I cannot open the tailgate or BAKFlip G2. My Pop & Lock is bundled with a back-up camera, which was purchased from Camera Source. My Pop-Lock is the type you use your own truck key (coded).

I like to avoid destroying the Pop-Lock (and the back-up camera), if possible, as the back-up camera has been very valuable to me.

Is there a way to open up the BAKFlip G2 without damaging it? If yes, then can I remove the screws of the panel of the tail gate, which is facing to the driving direction?

    Thanks

try to run a bent coat hanger between the cover and the tailgate to grab the release wire. Or a long skinny screwdriver...

This is a known issue. I was worried about this when my key coded version started struggling to lock/unlock. I sprayed all the components with some WD-40 but it didn't help matters. Switched to the actuator model a year ago and haven't had a problem since. Spend the extra money, it's worth it.

Go to the auto parts store and buy a can of graphite in a airsole can. Stick the little hose nozzle in the key slot and spray a bunch, followed by your key working back and forth in the key slot.

I bought a pop and lock (coded) last spring. After install I never actually locked it as I don't keep much valuable stuff in the bed. When I did try and use it this winter the key would not turn. Used the graphite to fix it. Have done this on motorcycle ignition in the past when they sit outside.

Do not use wd-40. While it may work to get the lock working again, the oily fluid will attract dirt making it clog up quicker.

Thank you all for your valuable inputs. I could manage to open the BAKFlip. With a little help of a pry bar, I could insert my fingers and pull the rope that secures the BAKFlip cover. I now have an access to the tailgate. I will unscrew the bolts and remove the plastic cover. Once I successfully unlock or destroy the lock whatever it is, I do not think I will ever use this lock again:mad:

Yes, I have seen the threads about non-functioning Pop&Lock. Thought about it might happen to me, but oh well:ballchain: I guess I waited too long!
