I was driving down a bumpy road and hear a loud bang. I got out and the truck is sagging towards the drivers side front tire. I look under and see this on the shock! Has anyone ever had this happen to them too?

Never broken a front shock, but have blown a rear one.

Is the front lifted with a top plate spacer?

Yes, it is. But on the bright side, you have the brains to realize it, and the stones to admit it. Good for you, it's a refreshing change.

Also curious, how many miles on those shocks and truck? How "bumpy" was this road and at what speed?

120,xxx on the truck and shocks. It was just an old country road with some holes, and I guess I hit one just right doing about 60.

That's quite the recipe for disaster. Betty Crocker would be jealous.

Yep, your fault. :) Top plate spacer causes the shock to bottom out before the frame bumpstop. Plenty of past examples:

    Happens to Tundras, too:

100% caused by the spacer lift.

Instead of the bumpstop (round rubber piece mounted to your frame) bumping off the lower control arm when you bottom out, the spacer causes the shock to become the piece that bottoms out - and the shock is nowhere near as strong as a piece of rubber mounted to the frame.
