hey guys I was considering upgrading my stock speakers and running them off of the stock head unit for the mean time. I just wanna know from the people that have done it. Does it sound any better? How big is the difference? Or should I wait till I do a full system install?

So not sure on the tacomas, because I've never messed with them, but on other vehicles I've never really noticed a difference. The stock head units typically don't produce enough power to properly run aftermarket speakers. You end up getting "clipping" from the lack of power, causing distortion. I think you will be much happier with a head unit upgrade first

I upgraded my factory speakers about two years ago and it made a huge difference.
I am getting ready to upgrade my stock head unit to a Pioneer.
I get all my stuff from Crutchfield and talk to an adviser as I have no clue and they are awesome to deal with.

I know the head unit will not have the power to really push the aftermarket speakers I was just worried I'd blow my stock speakers. And was looking for some improvement until I do a full upgrade. I am going to do a full upgrade with sound deadening and a dsp with an aftermarket head unit but that will most likely be next year. I was looking for something temporary to get my by for the time being.

I might just give it a shot I have some rockford t1 3 way 6x9 in my closet and some t2 components but instead of using the components I might just purchase the t1 coaxials so I don't have to worry about mounting the crossover until I put in an amp

Alot of people here seem to use Rockford for speakers. I'm intrigued as to why. I know they make a solid product, but performance I would go cdt...let me know how they sound after you finish the install!

Haha to be honest I've been a true rockford fan for so many years. I've heard many products used by friends and family memeber and I've heard better. I just can't stray away because I can say they've never disappointed me.

Absolutely NO difference in my 15'. After I installed a new head unit, HUGE difference in sound. The HU's in Tacomas are the worst.
