Hello all! I'm new to TW and glad to be a member. To many good looking trucks on here. I need help with my rear suspension lift. I'm not planning on rock crawling and not looking to spend a fortune just yet on my suspension cuz I'm getting married soon, so have to save for that. My question is... Im lifting the front about 3" and looking to be leveled or at 2.5 at rear. Don't know if AAL is the way to go with my stock leaf springs, or a whole new kit with additional AAL. I'm totally new to all of this. I'm also planning on getting a bed rack installed in the future along with a cvs tent. Please help.

Most AAL setups offer around 2" lift, especially since you're in a long bed, if you're using an axle shim to help with driveline angles, you may get closer to 2.25-2.5, but based on most of the research I've done it seems to get much over 2" you're looking at a full leaf pack. I've still on the fence myself, but with a different goal in mind. I'm aiming for the 2-2.5" front lift, so while I'd like to just be free of the Toyota stock leafs, most full packs are either $$$ or offer more lift than I need.

I didn't plan on using axle shims. But will look into them if needed. Thank you for informing me about that. Yeah, a new leaf kit is pretty pricey and I was looking to avoid that. Plus, this truck is my daily driver and it's only on weekends that the bed is loaded with anything so I'm not needing all that extra weight capacity, but it would be a good idea to have it. My stock leafs are not flat yet. They seem pretty good still. That's why I had in mind going with an aal..not sure how the ride will feel and if it will affect wheel travel.

Can you save more money and not do any lift at all? I mean if it's just for looks it could at least wait.

Then use something like a Hellwig overload spring or airbags to load compensate when needed. At least until you are ready to do a complete setup

OP...keep in mind, anything other than new leaf packs will give you a harder ride. New leaf pack will give you a nice ride, and that's the only way to get a nice ride equal to a stock ride with adding height in the rear. I have done, AAL, shims, air bags, and nothing compared to the new leaf packs I just installed. So, if you don't want to compromise on ride quality, and cant afford new leaf packs then I would say wait. Just my opinion...

You're right. I think I will do a new leaf pack. Fiancé can wait... truck can't! Hahaha!! What leaf pack do you recommend for a good 2.5 lift, or anything close to a 3". I'm doing my front end soon so I need some advice for the rear.

I did a lot of research on leaf packs and finally pulled the trigger on OME, Dakars, with this leaf pack, if the truck sites to high in the rear you can remove the 3rd leaf from the top and that will bring the height down slightly, and give you a slightly softer ride. This leaf pack adds about 2.75" I listened to many member on this sight and I'm glad I did, I couldn't be any happier with my decision, gives a great ride.

Thanks for the info. I've heard much about dakars. I might jus go that route. And yeah, double up on the question if you have the 3rd leave removed..

I kept the pack whole per @OZ-T recommendation. I was nervous it would be to high, but I couldn't be happier.

I have Icon 2.5" coilovers in the front and Icon 2.0" non resi in the rear.

The wheels I got years ago for my 2012. I wanted them before I ever had a Tacoma.

I think I would leave the pack whole in your case. Dclb's tend to get a little less lift out of them. Especially if you carry additional weight.

That’s not a lift bud, that just a helper spring. To keep the stock leaf from getting flat...
