Help with fixing Parking Brake

Hey guys, can someone please help me fix my e-brake. Ive had my truck for 3.5years and I have never had a working e-brake. I have a 01 4cly 5spd.

 

Well, what's wrong with it?

On a side note, they're pretty unnecessary. I didn't have a working one, then I fixed it, then it broke again after a month and I've given up. The cable is stretched and the back levers are rusted frozen again.

Instead of a parking brake in a manual, if just leaving it in gear is not enough (it is in most places though obviously), put the truck in Low Range. The lower ratio more than compensates for the lack of a parking brake.

I would say leave it, more trouble than its worth.

I've had a few replaced through the years.
Approx. $150.... parts and labor.
You want an e-brake, get it fixed.

 

Hmmm...I still don't think it's that necessary or worth it.

 

I use my emergency brake.

Have to keep in mind if the track "was" to get away while parked, it's a ticket and it won't make your insurance company happy.

Also nice to let the truck warm up while parked in cold weather.
Need an emergency brake then.

 

I've gotten real creative with snowbanks.

sorry but that's horrible advice.

you do want a parking brake, what if you go to a buddy's house and he lives on a very steep hill? I wouldn't feel safe leaving my truck without a parking brake, even turned against a curb in low range.

plus putting it in low range every time you park on a steep hill would be a pain in the ass

 

I dont know what BENMMA's problem is but my cable broke right at the end of the handle and I just got the new primary cable from the dealer for 40 bucks. It looks like it will be really simple to change out but I can't figure out how to disconnect the cable at the end of the handle where it broke. Everything else for the process looks really easy though, any advice on this would be much appreciated!

 

I'm pretty sure a working parking brake is a DOT requirement in all states. You won't pass an inspection with out one.
