    Hello!

I apologize if this is a dumb question... :anonymous:

I have a 2017 Tacoma purchased 12/22/16. When I was installing my RCI front skid today, I noticed some rust on the undercarriage of the frame including some areas not fully exposed when covered with the stock front skid I think. It's all bare steel so I'm assuming it'll rust as expected (also in Florida with high humidity) but I just wanted to make sure none of the areas should cause a red flag with a truck only a few months old.

    Thanks!

Surface rust is pretty normal. You should have saw my Ford. Whole truck was red/brown underneath.

Nearly everything you show is a machined surface on a cast/forged part, that was not treated after machining. It's definitely not something to worry about, but I understand you asking, because it's something to raise an eyebrow at for sure!

Those sections are bare metal that's why that happens, I am anal about my truck and sprayed them with chassis black when brand new.

I should have done this. I haven't taken my truck anywhere near salty mountain roads or on the beach (yet). So I was a bit taken when I had rust just like the OP. The more I looked at it, made me realize it was just small portions of bare untreated metal.
