!st gen love, bed supports

Love the bed support idea for 2nd and 3rd gens. I found several alternatives for 1st gens on Ebay.

Although not quite as beefy as the Bentrodders unit, they will fill the bill. Links below, several sizes are available...I only listed two links, I figure one can do their own search on Ebay. Obviously some drilling will be required...

I thought the reason for bed supports for the 2nd gens is because they actually need them. If you apply load to the bed rails the bed can bend. While with 1st gens it is not needs so there is no product to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Which happens often so no big deal.

These are one of the products has came and gone. These were popular around the time tail gate nets came out, because everyone wanted that "pre runner" look. I'd venture to say your typical Tacoma owner has no need for these 1st or 2nd gen.

 

My bed sides at the rear have moved out (splayed) before, primarily from hauling heavy loads of 6' logs out from the back property over rough dirt roads. These puppies would have mitigated the problem for sure...

I posted the links as the braces are not currently available for 1st gens...I can't be the only one who has had the problem, YMMV...I got tired of using my come along to re-straighten the sides...

With heavy loads tighten up a ratchet strap over it. Keeps mine from bending out. Also secures your load.

 

My idea of heavy load was not actually a heavy load. Lol

I drove cross country with 1200 pounds of stuff in the bed of my truck with no problem BUT those weren't logs pushing on my bedside. That's a whole different story.

 

1st gen beds are much sturdier that those that have come along later. However, our beds are still vulnerable to an extent.

Over time, with the weight of an RTT on a bed rack any many miles of off-road jostling, I've begun to see one side of the bed being pushed out as evidenced by the gap between the tailgate and the tail light area of the bed.

Not sure if these are the answer but the concept is a valid one.

 

Also bear in mind, after they bend the first time, the metal is weakened slightly, making it easier the next time a load or side force pushes on it...

 

Either way looks like a cheap insirance if you haul stuff
