    Hey everyone,

Back story on how I got my Taco:

I purchased a 2012 DCLB with 49xxx miles, 4WD, Super White, everything looked good to go. But being a skeptic, I called the dealer's bluff on the maintenance performed before putting it on the lot for sale.

I changed the fluids, engine oil, diffs, and transfer case, changed engine and cabin filter and spark plugs. All fluids prior to being changed were black. The one thing I won't fault the dealer for is the discovery of a leaking valve cover.

When changing the plugs, one could tell they were the original from the factory (passenger side Denso, driver side NGK). Upon changing the last spark plug (driver side, closest to the firewall), I noticed oil on the threads of the plug and the tip was still dry. Glad I noticed the infamous valve cover leak at 50K miles, with a couple months and 10k miles to spare on the 60K Powertrain Warranty.

I called Toyota directly to confirm that the Powertrain Warranty would cover the repair, and it should be good to go once I bring it in to any dealer (I have a case number and everything). Calling Toyota was beneficial, because I now know that I have a good amount of time before the warranty expires, as they go by the date the truck was driven off the lot by the first owner. Good to know that the original warranties are fully transferable as well.

Just glad I spotted this before I ran out of the original warranty and would have to pay a deductible on my extended warranty. Either way, it's a relief to know that a weekend wrencher as myself wont have to tackle this job. Worst case, I will, but if it's covered, I'm taking it to the shop. Even then, I'm weary of bringing my truck to any dealership for service/warranty work. Amazing that at just 50K miles, a gasket like this could go so early. I'll update the progress for anyone interested. Hoping for the best.

Anyone recommend a dealer in the SF Bay Area for warranty work?
