Switch Wiring Help

The black can go to the frame if I remember correctly. The reds are a crap shoot and green should go directly to the batt w/ fuse. Anytime I switch the wires I take it off the battery, then reconnect battery and see if the combo worked. It's a pain, but so is getting shocked. I've done 3 and 4 wire setups, you'll figure it out.

 

I'm going to try to go by the diagram you guys provided. @CaliRaisedLed sent a wiring harness already setup with the relay however no wiring diagram. I'm quite frustrated to say the least. Thanks everyone's help, I really appreciate it. I'll update when I figure this out or give up / start drinking heavily.

If you can't get things sorted out take a step back and just go through the diagrams and redraw it out. It's not difficult it's just annoying/frustrating to think it all through.
Once you figure it out once it's super easy and makes complete since next time around.

Just don't do what one person suggested with just tapping wires and hopin it works out, thats a piss poor way to fuck something up.

 

Ok guys, so I tried various things and still with the same problem. However, I did successfully get through a bomber of Goose Island BCBS last night, so that's a positive. The relay is mounted on the quarter panel. Included a picture of the relay. So here's where I'm getting confused despite all of the great support I have received so far. I honestly can't thank you guys enough, I know I'll get this figured out eventually.

The relay provided to me from @CaliRaisedLed has 3 bundles of wire. One (87), going to the light bar. Two (30), a red and black wire going to I assume, the positive terminal on the battery and a ground. Three (86) has 3 wires, a white, red and black that go through the firewall and into the cab to work the switch. I have wired the switch according to the schematic provided by @windsor and the switch still has power regardless if red 2 is attached to the fuse box. The switch even has power if the truck is off. I tried putting the tap in to the fuse box in the cab, 1 left (guage) and the icon on the switch stays lit but the lettering "bumper light bar" turns off and on with the headlights / drl etc. However, the switch still has power regardless truck on or off. I'm assuming I need to move the red wire that is currently attached to the positive terminal of the battery to correct this? I have not tried to connect the green wire on the switch to anything else either. If I do attach it to the fuse box, what do I do with the white wire coming from the relay?

@PlankRider6, do you have a Multi-Meter (DMM)?

The tap a fuse is upside down. In this position it will not offer any circuit protection.

 

@PlankRider6 First, your description of the harness has me a little confused. Can you take a picture of the bottom of the relay plug (where the wires go into the plug).
Ok. I'm working heavily medicated, so this may take me a bit to figure out. Unplug the harness from the switch. Set your DMM to DC voltage (solid line above dashed line). Either hold or use alligator clip to ground the black lead to a good ground. Use the red lead to test each of the wires on the harness. What readings do you get with each color?

 

You may need to use a needle or piece of wire with the ends stripped to access the terminals. DO NOT POKE A NEEDLE THROUGH THE WIRE TO TEST.
With the lights/key off you should have 12v+ at green, .000 at red 1, .000 at red 2, .000 at black.
With lights/key on you should have 12v+ at green, .000 at red 1, 12v+ at red 2, .000 at black.

Also, as @Iggy pointed out, how the add-a-fuse is installed does matter. If the outlet (wire) side of the fuse is on the same side as the "powered" side of the factory fuse, it may cause issues. While the circuit will still be protected, it increases the load on the OE rated (bottom) fuse. This is because the power has to travel through the first fuse before it can go to the second. So, with the add-a-fuse pulled out, test the fuse panel to see if the power side is on top or bottom. You want the wire pointing away from the power side of the OE circuit.

I just finished installing the same Cali Raised Light Bar today. I will be installing the switch tomorrow. They sell a lighted switch on their site and included the following link below for installation. Hope this helps. I will follow these directions and see if it works. I read thru the instructions and its pretty straight forward except that it states that when you cut the original switch off of the harness to install the new switch, there is a blue white and black wire. My harness had a red white and black wire. I am assuming the red wire is the same as the blue one stated in the instructions. If any of you wiring experts out there have any input, help would be appreciated.

What accessory is typically easiest to run the switch LEDs while your parking/driving lights are on? How are guys wiring 6 switch panels like so?

 

@jdog1970 I followed those instructions to the T. Let me know what your results are, I'm waiting to hear back from CaliRaised as I messaged them about this very thing this afternoon.

 

You might need to switch your red wires????

 

I finally figured it out! Thanks to a lot of help from @windsor, can't thank you enough.

1. The red wire from the relay should be connected to the green wire
2. The white wire from the relay should be connected to red 1

The fuse tap is connected to the tail light fuse as shown in the instructions or any other fuse that you choose that turns on with the ignition. The instructions provided by CaliRaised are INCORRECT. I notified them of this, I hope they correct it for other customers with the same problem. Clearly I wasn't the only one.

This worked for me, what a big help. Only issue now is im mounting mine in the center console and need a longer wire for the add-a-fuse.

 

If I don't want the switch to light up at all, how would I connect switch to the Cali Raised provided wire harness? Which wires would I need to splice together?
