How did your truck do pulling it and stopping it? I would imagine that rig was about 5000 pounds or more.

Now that's a good load of wood -- That's why I got the long bed! Careful with loading out on the tailgate --the folks behind you may have a good lawyer if one falls off and hits them!?

Not sure what it weighed, but I won't tow it again. Too much boat for a Taco to tow.

Yea, that's the reason I started asking questions to start with. Need a full size truck for something that size and weight.

    My biggest enemy is wind.

The trailer (H&H 6x12) pulls straight and true behind the pickup. My father borrowed it and said it's one of the easiest pulling trailers he's ever had hooked to him (and that's saying something!).

I used my 2nd gen and pulled this trailer from Wichita, Kansas to Baltimore, Maryland empty, loaded it, and pulled it back. As long as I kept it out of OD, I never could tell it was behind me, save for some profound elevation changes in West Virginia. I've loaded it heavy, I've loaded it light. Didn't matter... the 2nd gen wanted OD off, but then it would take it anywhere you wanted to go.

I've only had the opportunity to pull this empty with my 3rd gen so far. Even with some headwind, if I keep the RPM at or above 2500, the truck doesn't seem to notice it's back there, even in the OD gears (but remember I'm in a manual).

I've got it bogged down pretty heavy today with a load I need to take to the dump. I'll let you know know it does after!

Oh I should also point out that driving conservatively I am able to maintain 13-15mpg.

Threw 20 bags of 50# manure/compost in the bed this past weekend. It squatted a little but handled it just fine. Averaged 18mpg on the 20 mile trip back.

I keep a few pairs of skis all winter. Of course add the race boards for race days. This spring this baby is going to be used - mulch, loam, rocks, wood - lots of projects coming up. We still have a snow on the ground with hopefully more on the way :bananadance::woot:

Snow chaser. She handles it like it's not there for the most part.

Lately... snowblower, 3 shovels, 4-5 bags of rock salt and my two boys to man the shovels.

The whole family's driveways are dug out now... so empty again.

Yeah, I kinda had to help a good freind, and it was a reasonable tow.

So update... It's a particularly breezy day here on the Great Plains with a NNE sustained wind of 20 mph... gusts probably 30-35. In 5th at 70mph and 2800 rpm heading south I got 13mpg... heading north I got 10. I drove 60 miles used 1/4 of a tank... which is good considering my 2nd Gen had a range of about 220 miles on a tank driving 60 in 4th at 2500 rpm.

While my demands in towing are minimal, if I had to tow long distances frequently, I'm in the wrong vehicle. I tow this trailer a couple of times a month maybe, so it will be okay. I actually am a little more pleased with this truck over my 2nd gen. It's definitely an improvement, but to a limited degree.

If I had a long bed I would have still loaded out onto the tailgate to get even more on and get done quicker.;)

Yup, just moved it on my property and my in-laws live in a different town.

I would be towing the trailer about 700 miles 1 way from Seattle to Oregon. It's mostly a flat with some mild hills so I am thinking it will be fine. I need to get more comfortable with towing before I make this trek in August

I'm thinking you'll be fine too. On one stretch of my journey there was a wind break along the highway... you could really feel the truck take off. I hit the wind and it was like hitting a wall.
