i am pretty dense when it comes to this stuff (old fart) but will look into it. you seem to be knowledgeable on this and not to hijack a thread but my situation is i live in hawaii and even though i have entunes premium the XM button does not exist, we get no signal here and the capability is not in the unit. i am wondering if the software has been removed and can it be uploaded if i relocate to the mainland? can't believe they would build a special head unit without XM just for hawaii.

I'm sure they can. There is an SD card they can remove to update and load software. They just delete the Hawaiian version and upload the mainland version.

Kahanabob... I live in Hawaii and believe you are onto something with software removed from the Entune Premium head units. I was on the mainland last week and drove 2016 tacos with traffic and weather reports on the nav map as well as separate apps for both. I picked up my 2016 TRD Sport on Monday from Servco (HI), and it doesn't have either.

FYI I believe you don't have to open the entune app. it automatically takes over when you enter the truck and sync on your Qi charger.

They call it Starlink in the Subaru but the software and interface are exactly the same.

i called servco asked to speak to someone that could answer entunes question they said "i will try" ask the question and was told i would need to replace the head unit. don't think they knew what they were talking about. that's saying a batch of head units were constructed without the circuitry for XM, specially for hawaii, just can't believe that. since you are on Oahu if ever at servco may you can get a better answer, i am on maui.

Pull out the SD card and have the dealer load the state-side software onto it then plug it back in.

vehicles are transported to hawaii without a SD card due they seem to go missing when the boat arrives. i had to go back to the dealer and get my card when they got it in. so if the XM function is located in the SD card then that answer's my question. if/when i relocate to the mainland i would assume i can go to a Toyota dealer there and they will do that...........thanks
