My BMW 3 series had a windshield that seemed to be a rock magnet. It was also made out of butter. EVERYTHING chipped it. It was pitted after 3-4 months of being replaced. None of my other cars had that issue. They all had pilkington glass.

    Might just be shitty luck.

My Tacoma hasn't had any problems with chips or whatnot, and I've taken some doosies right on the glass. One of which I was sure left a massive crack...not even a scratch.

Luck of the draw. Gone years with not even a chip and then to chips in back to back days driving the same route every time

    all tore up already
Id buy into the shape/angle/whatever reasoning more if i didnt break mine just driving it without anything hitting it. Im actually a bit nervous now, if a little flex broke mine, how did it survive wheel off the ground flexing offroad?

In Atlanta, if you leave 3 car spaces between you and the car in front of you, there will almost instantly be 3 cars in that space with a 4th trying to move over, and apparently none of them have functional blinkers.

Had to get mine replaced already (7,000 miles). Unsure what hit me, probably a rock at night or something.

I don't. Oregon uses cinder in a lot of places. I think the glass companies lobby for it! Two of my break's came from vehicles hauling ass in the opposite direction on the highway. It's like random BB gun shootings.

Another vote for cheap glass. I owned a 2nd gen for ten years and never had a crack or chip. I've had this new 3rd gen for one month and only 2000 miles on it and have 5 little chips marks. I didn't even hear a rock hit the glass except for one occasion and it didn't even sound that violent. Oh, another observation is the cheap paint I did my first wax and have rock chips everywhere. Again, more then I've accumulated in my previous 10 year old 2nd gen. I'm not be paranoid or exaggerating.

Vote for bad luck. Glass is most likely made by Pilkington which makes glass for many manufacturers.
Anybody notice the truck that went "dukes of hazard" recently? Even with all the stresses on the entire passenger shell the windshield did not crack.

I am now on my third windshield at 13,000 miles. First one shattered where rearview mirror was attached while I was driving down the road and was covered by the dealer. Second one started cracking from the edge and they said something hit it and would not budge on repair. These things obviously have problems.

Perhaps it's not the glass but they way they are installed on certain trucks or from certain plants? If a windshield is replaced after breaking it's unlikely someone would know to add spacers that weren't installed to begin with.
Most cars require spacers between the glass and the body IN glue bead, maybe the spacers are not installed, wrong size or placed poorly causing stress when the body flexes certain ways??
    PURELY SPECULATION and spitballing ideas.
Honestly it's futile to try and guess as to the cause without real diagnosis

Here is what the spacers look like
    Here is one spacer installed
Here is the glue bead that gets razor knifed off before applying a new bead of glue
Here is a pic of the old glue bead showing no spacers. As I said some cars get spacers, some don't but you must replace the spacers IF it had them already.
    Here is a fresh glass

Just had mine replaced today. 3k miles on truck and rock popped up and cracked windshield yesterday....After 2 hours in sun crack spread. The installer stated today that he feels the quality of my new glass "fuyao" is pretty good and he would run it on his car. He also stated that Pilkington just doesn't have the quality they used to. First two pics of are my cracked glass and second 2 are of the new one. The glass installed was $650.

Speaking of cracked/chipped windshields... Two days ago, I got two small chips on the passenger side. Was not happy at all! Made me want to replace the entire glass.

Did a DIY fix today and came out good. Could still see a spec. Anyhow, I believe the rock that hit my windshield was small.

Mine took a rock to the windshield a few weeks ago and only managed to scratch/pit the glass. I think it's all luck.
