Wow. I'd say that your dealer experience is atypical for sure! I'm very interested in what you learn. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Thanks for keeping this issue alive. I just noticed in my new 17 OR. Due to this forum, I am paranoid have been hyper aware for all sounds and rattles described. Admittedly, I hadn't heard anything until this week. As previously described, mine is a faint and maybe even intermittent howl around 55 mph when coasting. It doesn't sound like a worrisome sound if that makes sense? In fact, most people probably wouldn't hear it. Concerned it will get louder or be a result of a damaging process though. Hopefully someone will figure out what is causing the noise. Maybe not the rear diff at all? I can live with the faint noise mine makes at this point. Just hoping it does't get louder.

I pretty much feel the same. I've noticed mine for a couple of weeks now. I'm also hoping it turns out as simple as the LCA plugs were.

And once you hear it you definitely start hearing it all the time.
I'd say you become hypersensitive to it. I've purposely not mentioned it to my family and I'll see how long it takes them to notice.

I haven't mentioned it to my family either. I doubt they'll hear it though. Rattles and squeaks don't seem to bother them at all. Now that you hear this, would you recommend to a friend that they NOT buy a 2017 Tacoma? I'm just not sure how big of a deal this is?

I'd probably mention it but it's not a deal breaker for me. Not unless it gets so annoying I can't have a normal conversation.

My guess someone will figure it out sooner than later.
