Honestly, I haven't been able to use it! I purchased it in November and then was unable to use it the whole winter, so far though its a quick and easy setup! And being able to do it all yourself is so nice!

Super close to getting this custom rack done. All that's left is getting the tabs on for the RTT and paint. My buddy has put a ton of work into it and it's exactly what I've been looking for. More pictures to come! #EAF

More of a detailed picture of the swing out. Holds up nice to this wheel as well as for the full size. Still have a few more accessories to order. Hopefully getting the tent on by the end of the week along with paint.

Been thinking about doing something like this rack. I like the tire carrier/cap security feature. Any worries about the tube mounted to the hinge being strong enough when open? Yours looks lean, which I prefer as long as it's strong enough. Most carriers look way over built to me.

That's one of the main reasons for doing this carrier/cap security. It bounces a tiny bit when going over bumps, In the near future, I may end up re doing it with square tubing. It seems stronger than the round and with just once piece it would be fine. The whole system itself is bolted down the the topper bolted down on top of that. Plus there is going to be an RTT on top.

Ran across this rig looking for ideas for over-the-cab rack. All integrated with his sliders and bumper. Pretty stout set up.

    http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/124717-Rtt-wind-deflector

He does bumpers and other fab work, mostly for LCs and new Tacomas. Dissent Offroad I believe is his shop. Quality work.

Wow, that is impressive. Wish I would've run across this a while ago! Another reason for doing this was to fit in the garage with the tent. I've yet to try, but fingers crossed it does. So it built as close as possible to topper. I may try and incorporate a fear bumper in the future to all of this! Thanks for sharing

I might be doing the same thing with the whole canopy/ rack setup then I came across your build and was like damn beat me to it.

Hahah, I've had the idea for a while!! When I blew my knee, I decided to take the opportunity to do it as I was able to be quite involved in the whole build as skiing was not the main thing. If you are to do go ahead and build one, one thing I would suggest is to make the tire gate a little beefier. Mine is good for now, but I will be re-doing it in the future as it does bounce a tiny bit over bumps and all.

That or you could add another hinge above the original one and tie in another bar to the lower one.

A whole other spindle above the existing one and have the tire mount on a plate or something inbetween, that way you can keep the tube look and it wont look like an after thought, which is how most of my home projects look like, it drives me nuts.

Interesting! If theres room to put another one I think that would be overkill for sure, but I like overkill. I like the way you think.

It definatly wouldnt wobble and it would be sturdy enough for a heavy tire and other stuff like jerry cans or water, if your into that kind of thing.

Got the @Rotopax mount installed, waiting for the next shipment of 4 gallon gas tanks to come in to order the rest. Also going in this week to get the last of the mounts installed for the tent.

Spent the morning yesterday getting everything buttoned up with the #EAF custom rack. Got extra support bars welded on, as well as got the rest painted and threw the tent on. Mega excited to have the tent on and getting the Dakar leafs to engage as I had ordered them with rake as well as an AAL. Still waiting on Rotopax and Maxtrax and my full size spare, but I can at least go camp (mall crawl)
