Anybody on here order the Bestop bed rack to go over a Bestop, not a softopper? My aluminum one finally came in after a long wait. Excited, I took it directly down to have it coated and to my dismay I cannot fit my Bestop under it. I even removed the canvas, trying to just fit the frame up under it. Not fitting. its not wide enough and even if it were, its not tall enough. I've sent Eddy emails & pics and asked questions. He just says its a tight fit but its made for the Bestop. I'm starting to think my only alternative is to buy a softopper. Another $700 after $940 on the rack...and I bought the rack so I could buy a RTT and mount to it over my Bestop. Anbody know the magic / have any suggestions on how to make this thing fit over a Bestop?

Eddy has been building these racks for a while now. This is the first I've heard with a fitment issue. It is possible something may have gotten tweaked during shipment to TX, or at the coating shop. Is the Bestop new or used?
Regardless man, that's a bum situation to be in. Hope it can be resolved.

At this point I'm not asking for a return/refund, nor has Eddy offered to take it back. Eddy says it will fit...I just don't see how and was wondering if anyone else has one and can give me pointers. There's no way to shift the rack forward or backward and only so much shifting you can do to the Bestop rails and the Bestop rails have to set on top of the Rack mounting feet, so no changing the height requirements.
I can't tell from your pic, but if you have a Softopper All-Pro makes a rack for it. I was going to get in on a group buy, but it wouldn't fit a Bestop. Group buy is closed but you can see what they offer here:

Nothing looks tweaked. I bought the Bestop new in 2014.

Is there like a specific way it has to all be assembled to fit correctly? Like does the whole thing need to be taken off and assembled off the truck then put on the truck?

Did you have to disconnect the rear stay because it wouldn't fold out without doing so?

Its really hard to even judge by seeing the pics...you try pulling the pins on the front stays and maneuvering it in place then pinning it? Idk tho that would kinda be hard. I have a bestop so I am trying to think maybe something just needs to be played with to get it to fit right. That would defeat the whole point of the bestop imo.

Well, the Bestop rails have to set on top of the rack mounts, so taking it off really wouldn't make a difference because everything is happening above the bedsides and on top of the rack mounting feet. I've tried just the front Bestop support hoop and rear separately, without the canvas, just so I could see the angles. Can't make either of them work. I keep questioning myself and trying again. I tried the front support again when I got home and took a couple more pics. First one shows how high it will go. Second one shows were the pins are with it as high as it is in pic 1. not even near the notches. Third one show where the support hoop has to be to even get the pins in the notches. Looks to me like the side bars are at too much of an angle and the rack is just short of being high enough.....like it was made to fit a Softopper.
My last email from Eddy three days ago said "a couple guys said they had to fit the rack and support bars to open them in between the cross bars on the rack." As you can see this won't work on this one, its not high enough. I asked if the guys were TW member and would love to see pics...nothing back yet.

Well, after absolutely no attempt by Eddy to make this right, or even respond to my last two emails, I bought a Softopper and its a pretty tight fit.

I had a order in with SOS with the group buy last month but heard of a lot quality control issues and less than great customer service, so I cancelled my order
After seeing your issue, it confirms my decision to not do business with them
Sorry to hear of your troubles

My only suggestion would of been to try and move the bestow rails more inward. I remember when I mounted mine that I had issues with the top alone, and found that if I moved the bestow rails more towards the inwards lip of the bed, that the top went up easier. I think I also used different bed clamps too, since the ones I had forced the top to have to sit farther away from the lip since the clamp would catch on the railing.

Sucks you had to buy a new top. Sucks even more that you were offered zero support from the vendor. If it's suppose to be a tight fit, the smallest error in the pipe measurement for the rack you bought, would cause a fitment issue.

Hey man looking at this same set up. Do you know how tall your sos rack is off the bed rail?

Sorry, life has been getting in the way and I haven't been on in quite a while. I have the Softopper on, so the only place I can get a good measurement is from the top of the tailgate to the bottom of the highest point of the rack, which is 21 1/2 inches.

He didn't pay for it, but he offered and I accepted what I thought was a fair settlement.
