Huh? All I saw at the implied link was someone hawking a ebook for $20. What'd I miss?

Ah, okay, I'd put together a different link from the post, with a .com domain not .solutions domain.

Sounds like someone's sourcing a male/female jumper harness for the ECU connections. Didn't seem to add much over the existing option from KB VooDoo for folks with a modicum of wiring ability.

*shrug* All a matter of knowledge/convenience/cost/risk-aversion I guess.

He said it was going on sale in April and would be close to the same price as the current one he is selling on his site and on ebay ,
I don't mind paying a littl extra if I don't have to splice anything , just in case any warranty issues you just unplug and take it out

For $220 I can take my truck to the Motorsports shop down the street and have them install remote start and have them 5 miles from me for support if needed. If I'm gonna dyi I'll order from KB Voodoo. His kit seems easy enough and I'll keep a few bucks to throw at my next mod.

In regards to the engine shutting off upon entry...
Can someone with a remote start, try messing with the lock and unlock buttons prior to opening the door?

Won't do a thing. That "feature" is on the Toyota's end.

    It's an impossibility.

It's also a non-issue, it takes like a second to restart it.

Tried what? Pressing unlock on the fob? Pressing lock on the fob? You think people haven't tried that?

What specific lock/unlock sequence do you expect would get around Toyota's ECU not performing takeover after a remote start? Maybe Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start?

Not to be a smartass here(*), but at least provide some basis for why you think a lock/unlock sequence would force the Toyota ECU to allow the smartkey to takeover from the remote start module. I mean if we're just trying random stuff why not walk around the truck backwards three times clockwise and click our heels together while shouting "butter-my ass and call me Willy"? :D

    (*) okay maybe a little...

Yes, far bigger issue in the imagination than in practice.

As I've said before: Folks have a choice. They can get into a cold truck and press the Start button, or they can get into a warm truck and press the Start button.

Right, the alarm system is disarmed when you unlock the door either via the button on the fob or by touching the driver's door handle and unlocking via the smartkey system.

You have to do one or the other to open the door since it's locked while running on remote start.

This is also unrelated to takeover. Different subsystem.

    Level kit,
I have installed the version 1 of 12volt.Solutions remote start, it works perfect and is a much cleaner install than the other just my 2 cents.

Is there any work around so that it doesn't turn off when the door opens? I installed mine last night and was a little disappointed with that :/ other than that, super easy install, clear instructions!

No. There are no remote start modules that get around Toyota not allowing for "takeover" from a remote starter on the 2016+ Tacomas with Push-to-Start.

(FYI this has been discussed extensively in various remote start threads; yes some other manufacturers allow takeover or have had their systems cracked, no there's nothing to suggest the Tacoma situation will change in the forseeable future)
