AC Whistle / Mildew

Folks - Anyone had any experience with a whistling sound from the front air vents when running the A/C? I noticed it several weeks ago and it just wasn't a big enough deal for me to be concerned with, but today I had a pretty noticeable musky/mold-like smell when I turned on the A/C - reminiscent of an OLD vehicle (my '17 has 6k miles). Truck is garage kept except for mountain/camping trips a couple of weekends a month. Anyone else experienced this?

I know it's not earth shattering like some issues but still don't feel like a brand new truck should start to smell moldy esp. when it's hardly ever left in the elements...

 

Ok, now I feel less crazy. thank you. please post back your results. I'll pay attention to the drips as well - bought mine in November and am only now starting to see warm days occasionally and is likely why I hadn't noticed it until recently.

 

Check the incab filter for the airconditioner.

 

@bshammer0 ...... Here is a video on how to replace your cabin filter if you want to check out your filter to see if it is dirty. I threw that plastic shelf away the 1st week I bought my truck. It just limits the things you can carry in there. I also included a Amazon link for the filter if you choose to replace yours with this brand.

It probably wouldn't hurt to check the cabin filter. Maybe it got wet and its the source of the mildew.
Also you mentioned a whistle noise that maybe the filter clogged or something.

 

So the factory cabin air filter had the arrow pointing up (airflow) when I pulled it out. But video says point it down.

Any guidance on air direction? Thanks in advance.

hadn't touched this thread in awhile... but my truck did drip the condensation this summer but I'll tell you the mildewy / moldy smell in the air system is terrible. I know it sounds silly but to me that's normally been a "non related" sign it's time to trade up to a newer vehicle. In every SUV/truck I've owned it took several years before the slightest hint of biological buildup started to be noticeable. This truck started that as soon as I ran the A/C this year and has only gotten worse. I have kept the air filter clean and change it more frequently than I'm supposed to but this system just doesn't drain the moisture out very well. I even periodically would turn the heat on full blast before shutting off the truck to dry the system out after using AC and still didn't do much.

I'm just living with it as a "standard characteristic" but I am curious whether there is any "easy" stuff that could be used to spray or something into the air system to actually kill the bacterial buildup that causes that...

 

Ok youngsters: AC or fresh air smells bad? Turn on the ac, fresh air ,blower at max,Open windows and spray a can of Lysol into the system.

 

Aren't you supposed to get fresh air in at least every other time you turn on the AC? Mean you turn off the air recycle, let outside air in with windows open to blow all the hot air out, then switch back to reycle air and close windows.. I do this every other day or so to keep from getting that wet and stale smell from coming into the cabin.

 

This was from your current condenser?? So does Frigi Fresh just mask this buildup or kill off the bacteria?

Back to your condenser - I'm sure you cleaned it up, but how often would this maintained be required? I got that mildew smell after 10k miles.
