The only sensible action is to shoot it, except maybe hit it with an M72 if you've got one...

My BIL got this one in his yard a couple afternoons ago.
It was giving his chickens the evil eye for the past week till he got adjusted.
Big boy, little over 50 pounds. But not the Alfa. He's bigger and still in the area.

I have hunted in Arizona several times. In my area they are just getting harder and harder to hunt. As said in one of the first posts, they are so adaptable that they learn the calls too quickly. Soon enough I’m gonna have to kill a local child and wait for the coyotes to come eat his remains.. sounds horrible.. or dedicated, I don’t know which yet.

They are so shot at here you may get one or two rounds off on one but the rest will be chasing at full speed run. Anytime I have a shot on one I usually dont have my rifle...;)

Yeah that’s the worst. You ever try barking at them? It’s supposed to stop them dead in their tracks. It may help you get the third and final shot

I have been know to pop a Coyote or two while Hog hunting in South Alabama. They are all around my house here in Georgia but I live in a subdivision and can not pop them. You can see them from my kitchen window early in the morning and late in the evening.

You can’t bow hunt them either? Arizona let’s you bow hunt from your backyard in a lot of places. Depends on how eager you are just to kill something though. I enjoyed hunting them for a long time. Had a couple chances, but wasn’t very good. I have killed 2. The pelts are still in my parents freezer.

Anyone know anything about tanning hides?

They are out of bow range most of the time and the woods are thick. I live on a closed golf course they have plenty of rabbits and wood rats to eat here. Kinda spooky at night when they get excited. probably 35 or 40 of them at any given time. I am sure you could You Tube on how to tan a hide.

a friend and myself were out scouting and came across one running within rifle range and I lipsqueaked it and my friend got a good shot on it. but that was a rare encounter.

    I know the pelts stink...

I have actually tried YouTube for years looking for new videos. Every method I try just comes out to a rock hard trashed pelt. Some people say use borax, others say types of oils. Basically looking to see if anyone here had any luck with any specific method and cared to share with the group. I don’t care to spend $120 for someone else to do it.

I understand, I have never tried to tan anything. I still think a coyote hide would stink after tanning. Good luck with your search.

try brain tanning...got to keep the skull though. Every animal has just enough brain matter to tan their own hide.
