    Hey all,
My 07 is acting up. The fan speed adjustment only works on high. This has happened before but would work fine if I turned it up and down once or twice. An easy fix I hope. Thoughts?

I'm having the same exact problem in my 05. I hope to do some diagnosing this weekend. Sorry that this reply is useless, but we'll figure it out.

That happened in my 2009, it was the blower resistor that required replacement, it looks like part number 87138-04052. The one I pulled out looked like it was made by the USSR when they were trying to beat us to space, and the new one looks like some NASA built equivalent. It was really easy to replace, just two bolts near the blower under the passenger-side dash, pull out the old, put in the new and you're done.

Here's the link to the post that I used to learn about it.

Yup. Same here on my 2011. Mine stopped working on the two low speeds, but the two high speeds worked. $25 part. It was visibly bad/burnt.

Only thing is the bolts were a weird size--5.5mm I think. Just make sure you have a socket in that size.

This has pictures that show exactly where it is and how to replace it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/replacement-of-hvac-blower-motor-resistor.8310/

    Took me probably 5 minutes.

As mentioned it's your blower resistor. It's located under your glove box. 2 screws and an electrical connector. 25 bux and 5min time

Thank you all for replying and sending the links. This has been a great help. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Is it safe to continue using the fan on high if needed? Mornings are still cold in Maine.

Yeah, it's still safe, the resistor basically limits the power to the fan, the same amount of power is used when operating the fan.

I had this issue and during my search I learned that the main problem isn't always the resistor itself, but the plug getting bad contact which causes it all to heat up and finally melt, I ordered the resistor AND replacement plug pigtail both genuine toyota parts, spliced the pigtail by soldering and heat shrinking the connections... good as new.

    This is what I got...

So,,,,I took a look at the pig tail/resister connection and the metal in the pig tail seemed dark gray in appearance with no signs of over heating so I pushed the pig tail on and off several times hoping to create a better connection and presto!!!! All speeds are working so far. Thanks for your help everyone.
