I have a 04 3rz and I'm looking at adding the LCE long tube header. This header will delete the 1st cat. I'm wondering if with just the second cat, will I throw a code? I know there are ways to trick the ECU into thinking everything is good. I believe there were years that came with a single cat as well.

@tooter I know you might have some insight to this.

As long as your o2 sensors are present you shouldn't throw any codes

So I found my answer by doing it. I've now driven over 200 miles with the LCE header and haven't thrown a code.

The LCE header is roughly 5" shorter and sits roughly an inch higher than the stock one so some adjustments to the rest of the system are necessary. I did use universal hangers to hold the tail end up. But still used the factory mounts on the frame. I am only using 1 of the factory hangers for the cat pipe. I rotated that pipe so the shorter hanger is now using the mount on the cross member and is sitting above it. It's not pretty but it'll do for now.

In your 1st post you claim the long tube header Elim ates the 1st cat...but in your last post you claim it's 5 inches shorter.
So...did you have to eliminate the front cat or the a/f sensor. Or did you keep both cats?

Some pics and part numbers would be great.
I've been looking for headers for a while.

My motor had a mini header with a cat in the down pipe. The LCE header eliminates that downpipe but is plumbed for the egr and a/f sensor. It just doesn't extend as far as the down pipe did. So I only have the second cat left.

I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow but my skid plates might make it difficult to get good ones.

Any motor guru's reading this thread? Could you explain why cylinder 1 is much darker than the rest?

I can get more pictures if you need but I think this shows everything pretty well.

I have a similar question????? My 2004 with the 3RZ was originally bought in Kalifornia but it will never go back there and now that I live in Wyoming I'm wondering if I can get an LCE when the time comes for a complete exhaust system and just convert my exhaust system to what it would have if originally bought in Wyoming. Wyoming has no emissions testing. Would a different ECU be necessary or would the one that is in there now work?

The LCE header is the ONE product I have read about that really improves anything with the gutless 3RZ and that is the only "aftermarket" gizmo my truck will ever see. At this point in time anyway. However, I know the exhaust is going to have to be "re-engineered".

O2 sensors before cat are used to regulate A/F ratio, 02 after cats are for the ECU to see if cats are functioning correctly. You all that are removing stuff are just asking for problems, and all aftermarket headers suck for normal street driving.

I agree with your thoughts 100% and always have up until I read how many people bought an LCE header and found it worked as advertised. The LCE, as I said is the only thing I've ever thought about changing on my 2.7. Still thinking about it. It would be nice to have the torque curve lowered down to a lower RPM. That would be extremely helpful for those of us in the mountains.
