They ordered the thermostat because they're at the point where they're just replacing components of the cooling system until they figure out what is causing the overheating problem. I have asked them to flush the coolant and replace it and swap radiator caps with another truck and they won't do that until they get the go-ahead from corporate.

Feel bad for you. the pathetic thing is Toyota, dealers, management, is going to send another consumer to a different manufacturer. The fact that you gave them the exact criteria to cause symptoms and they were to incompetent to use your tips than admit it PATHETIC.

I think we need the clever sleuths who were able to get that scammers address and phone number in that one thread and get Seatbelt Mike's info...

They should be able to check the coolant without having to flush it.

Might be good to get a temp gun and shoot the condenser and compare to another Taco.

I forgot.... does the AC work well?

I haven't seen these thermostats, but if it's one of the typical spring types, they usually open or don't. I don't usually see them fail where running the AC causes the truck to overheat. Not impossible, but I'm kinda doubting it. Maybe if something was restricting flow or preventing the thermostat from opening.

Now if it's some other design.... IDK.

I find it hard to believe that they need to check with corporate to switch radiator caps.

I don't know if a pressure check cooling system is warranted, but I would urge the dealership to do one if they haven't already.

How likely would it be if the headgasket were to have a small weep after overheating? I know the OP didn't mention the headgasket blowing after overheating, but shouldn't they take precautionary measure to check if there's no leakage at the gasket? Also, does anyone know how long the heads need to overheat before they actually warp?

    Just curious.

Got to make sure you get paid, I am sure that warranty work has its red tape, this is the world we live in now.

HEY OP- Have you started researching your state's lemon laws?

Did they check the serpentine belt for flat spots and/or looseness? I could see how the load from the A/C compressor could slow the belt down reducing the speed to the water pump. Maybe??

While I agree with what you said it is possible that the thermostat is stuck in a partial open position, however the symptoms do not seem to indicate that is the issue, and the OP didn't say anything about taking longer than normal to get to operating temp which is what would happen in this scenario.

Sooooo....problem solved and Toyota didn't figure it out. I did. They replaced a water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, new hoses, new radiator cap, and still couldn't stop the overheating. I told them on day one to check between the condenser and radiator to see if it was dirty, and they told me they did and that it was clean. I went back to the shop with the tech and asked him if I could check something. I removed the plastic piece on top of the radiator and discovered the space between the radiator and condenser quite dirty. The tech and I went back in to the advisor and told them what I had found. I reminded him that I had told him on Wednesday that if it was still dirty that I'd take care of it but they told me it was clean and that airflow was not restricted. They then tried to charge me for all the work they had done. I won that battle. Got the truck home, took the condenser out and hit it with compressed air and then some purple power and a water hose. No more overheating.

Maybe the dealership should pay you for teaching the techs a thing or two.

I'm glad you got this figured out! Would you mind posting a couple pics and short write up of exactly how you took care of this? It might help those of us that like to get our trucks dirty.

It sounds like you removed the condenser and cleaned it very well. Did you loose or have to replace refrigerant doing this? Forgive my igorance:tinfoilhat:
