Thinking about how to add some rear speakers to my '15 Access Cab, I was under the impression that some of the earlier model Access Cabs had rear door speakers (6.5's or something?) and that the rear door panels on those models had the opening/grill for said speaker.

First off, did earlier year model Access cab trucks have rear speakers in the swing doors? And assuming they did, do the door panels match those of the later years, allowing one to integrate some rear fill without having to hack my original panels?

Love to hear your thoughts/input. Thanks!

I know in '12 you could get rear speakers in the AC doors. Mine did not have them but I jut had a shop put in 6.5" MTX in.

I had the spot in the door frame, but had to create a new speaker opening in the plastic panel. I wanted to get a black fiberglass grill, but opted for a much less expensive and labor intensive route: installing a speaker grill over a 5.25" hole.

    EDIT:
I ran speaker line from my aftermarket amp through the back doors to power them. Eventually I will run the fronts with amp too, as soon as my buddy who is helping and I can get together to do it.

I'm not a fan of speakers in the back. I think it sounds better with a good set of components in the front doors, one subwoofer, and a 4-channel amp in 3-channel mode. If you drive over 100w RMS to the front speakers it's plenty of sound for the whole truck.

I have heard other enthusiasts say the same thing. I personally like some fill behind me which is why I did it to mine. I would agree though, nice components up front with a good amp is all that is truly needed in an AC.
