Nice! I haven't seen damage happen like that on a ring. Your photo looks like you used Garlock as a gasket, what is it? I am waiting on my parts from ECGS also. Trying to decide on what to use for a gasket.

I really like Lubelocker gaskets, but the one I ordered was for a non e-locker 8" so it didn't work. I ended up just using grey permatex.

I asked ECGS what they use and they use the Grey Permatex. I used that and mines been fine.

After moving the e locker engaging fork all the way to the right, both sides still rotate to the same direction. But if I rotate the one shaft the other rotates to the opposite side, should be good, right?

It is. Pinion was loose, causing some grinding noise and making the locker actuator trip.

truck jacked.jpg 3rd member.jpg ring.jpg Thank you soo much for the original post, you saved me big time! I tore out my ring and pinion gear in the middle of the San Rafeal Swell this past weekend and limped the 10 miles back to my campsite (where I had my complete tool set). I used this post to remove my rear gear and get my truck home using 4wd (front wheel drive only). I was able to free wheel home to Salt Lake City. Now I get to replace my ring and pinion and all my bearings. However, without this post I would have been getting towed back to civilization and no ordinary tow truck could have helped, I would have needed an off-road recovery rig of some sort. Again a HUGE thnx! Amazingly I had intermittent internet at my campsite and found this forum post. It took tons of effort and lots of determination, but luckily I have a wife who was more than willing to help drag logs to crib my truck and be my tool gopher (go for). Can't say thnx enough.

Does ECGS just send you new rings and pinions? If I drop my third and front members I still have to take them to a shop and have someone install the gears correct? Or do they do a "core exchange" system? (I doubt it, but curious)

    Any reputable shops around Sacramento?

Looking at some 4.56s soon. New armor, bed cage, winch, 33s and soon to be a RTT Id feel more comfortable with the lower gearing

Try this thread for a reputable shop
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sacramento-members.143268/page-201#post-14947090

Yeah ECGS does a core exchange. I believe the core charge is $400 which you get back when you send your diffs back. They'll also build your actual housing/diff if you send it to them. Save the core charge, but then you have lots of down time...
