Fishing BS Thread

Well wasn't really expecting to catch stripers but ended up finding a pattern. Been catching the mess out of them down here in the river. One pictured was about 8.5lbs which is very good size for where I'm fishing at. Our slot is 18"-22" currently and Ive caught a bunch over. Here's a picture of my unit showing where they were sitting on a ledge off the main river channel

 

Trolling motor question...how far will a trolling motor take you? There are some lakes/pond that are electric engine only I just wondered how far/long a charged battery typically goes?

 

No tube, but I've seen a lot of people with this, including the guides at Dally's fly shop in Arkansas

Personally, I leave mine Unassembled in the carrying case tube until I get where I'm going.

Depends on motor size, amount of batteries hooked up, size of the boat and weight in the boat, along with what speed.

 

We are planning on getting a 16' aluminum boat, 2 passengers, gear etc. Its basically to get around the shore line on the lake until we get an outboard motor. I would think it should be able to go a decent ways but I dont know since we havent used a trolling motor much. We would have an oar for back up no doubt

 

Should be fine with 1-2 normal marine deep cycle batteries 1 will probably last you all day

 

yeah we might just end up getting a 4-stroke...and trolling motor later...my wife didnt like the idea of having to row our way back if we ran out of battery power

 

18-22.... Wow! In NJ the slot fish is 28"-43".

 

Thats for when they're spawning in the rivers, our "trophy" season and saltwater regs are way larger lol

 

There was a trout festival here in blue ridge today. Pretty cool. Second year they've done it, but I was working last year and couldn't go.

Several local outfitters come out along with some GA wildlife division guys, all kinds of vendors. Few thousand people total probably. Teaching kids how to cast and a bunch of shit for sale. I got several shirts because you can never have enough trout shirts, right?

 

Hello TW fishing bs thread! I too have been thinking up a design for a fly rod holder, similar to the titan rod vault. Here's what I've come up with. Ammo box and electrical conduit! I had some spare steel lying around so I just kind of went at it. The ammo box required the most modification. I sliced the side off and welded a hinge onto it to allow the side to drop down. It's still a work in progress, currently on the second prototype but I will be testing her out this weekend! I need to find a better way to mount the ammo box to the bed rail upright. It is currently held on by a couple self tapping screws. My metal fabrication skills are shit, please be kind.

they have a temporary $5 bounty in one area here...but they wont get all of them...I pulled 4 one day then last week I took a couple friends and we pulled 3 total. They are good eating.

 

So I guess the way I have my rods set up is for left handed. I hold the rod with my left hand and reel with the right on my spin caster. But I cast with my right... bait caster I would be right handed but spin cast Im left handed.. I am right handed for all writing etc.

 

Well I just burnt up a Penn Battle 4000 (2015 model). I just overhauled and greased it for the 4th time since I bought it and it is done. This makes the 2nd Penn that has failed me in the last 10 years. That was a Sargas which lasted 2 weeks, yes I said 2 weeks! I am done with Penn, THEY ARE JUNK.
Its all Shimano for me from here on. I've owned 4 Shimanos, 3 of those for 20 years and never an issue.
I was shopping for a new 11' surf rod earlier this year, walking through Cabelas I had it narrowed down between Penn, Tsunami and Cabelas brand. I noticed some of the rods missing a grommet in one of the eyes, after looking further I realized that every rod missing a grommet was a Penn.
