Im also looking for a lift, approximately 3 inch would be perfect for me. Your saying that long term, on that lift he did, that it will give him a problem on axels? will a kit like this be worth a look, it has a lot of stuff that i think could prevent future problems...http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/2005...hCQAv9xejGNxvYGKR7QCVLOcDGijttgSTBhoCitPw_wcB

He means East Coast Gear Supply makes a replacement sleeve for your front differential carrier bearing. Which is needed if you lift your truck more than 2" If you don't do this. There is a 75% chance you can do real damage to your drivetrain. So seperatte from that kit you also need the ECGS sleeve.

My needle bearing failed with less than 2" of lift

Ill be honest.. i don't know what that is, but ill search it up. I'm an occasional off-roader looking to become an avid one. I know almost next to nothing to lifts, except that suspension is better than body kits? basically what's the bare minimum i need for a lift to not harm my truck? is this kit i found good? i thought it was because it had those upper control a that i thought would stop the OEM ball joint from bending or wearing after being lifted more than 2 inches?

You know a kit is good when it's an extra $40 to get replacement shocks...

You don't go buy a 1500$ set of golf clubs for your first golf lesson do you? Wheel the truck find the shortcoming and limitations based on your desires then add as needed. Then buy once cry once

thats very true and you're right. But i didn't only want a lift to go off-roading, i want one so i can fit 33's and a nice set of TRD pro wheels, and from what I've researched 33's will rub on stock height.

33s are most likely going to require trimming. Lift alone won't do it to keep them from rubbing when wheeling. You'll also need UCAs, an alignment etc. Plan to spend 2000 to 2500 on lift and labor if you want to do it right the first time. I'd plan to spend at least 1500 in parts alone.

Why is this needed? Because lifting the truck causes wear on the needle due to the new angle? the factory one isnt built for that, so ECGS built one that is?

A truck isn't designed to be modified. Generally yes.

I'll quote myself. Start with the basic and go from there. Under 2" front and you'll be able to keep your factory control arms and still get your alignment number, or at least close. Rear 3 leaf add-a-leaf should get you to ~1 1/2" which would put you level with the front 2". 285's should fit pretty well.

Search ECGS bushing. It replaces the Driver side CV Needle Bearing that has been an issue with Tacoma's for 22 years. Pretty easy to replace, just takes some time to pull the Drivers CV.

Spend the money on the removal tool. You'll be glad you did.

You have to pull tie rods I believe as well as the cv axle so you can do it at home but may need to.rent a tie rod puller. Or find a driveline/axle shop to do it. Have seen quotes range from 350 to 400 for labor on the bushing replacement.
