Any So Cal Kidneys Available?

Hey So Cal fambam.

Just a quick update for 2017.

In September my wife's niece saw the ABC news story on my kidney search. She got inspired and signed up at UCLA to be my donor. She was the 10th person to try. She did the initial blood test and on December 27, we found out she was a blood match. On February 2, they had her fly in from Orlando, FL where she lives to do the next stage of testing.

Everything was lining up but we got word today that they found an issue with her more extensive blood draws during stage 2 of the donor screening process. They advised her that she will not be moving on to the final stage of the donor process.

So, I am back to square one. Not going to let it kick me down though.

Kinda funny story. I had knee surgery this week and took over an hour longer to wake up than normal. Many drugs bind to protein in your blood. I spill most of my protein. I didn't think about that prolonging the anesthesia affect. As a pharmacist I should have.

Mike, we talked once before and I wanted to just drop a line letting you know that I'm still keeping a good thought for you. Really wish that you could move to the St. Louis area for a few years as we have three regions that intersect here and the average wait is 3-4 years.

I'm active on only one list at the moment and so far all three potential donors have had something pop up to get them denied from continuing on. Wife and I are discussing getting on another list in the region just north of us now. My hopes are that things look up for you and you get more time to enjoy your loved ones as well as being you.

 

Mike, you've helped me like a big brother when I was a kid. I remember I wasn't even 20 yet and you planted that seed and got me started in the auto industry. Now I've got design awards and inventors patents with my name attached nearly 20 years later. I just wanted to let you and the rest of TacomaWorld know that I didn't forget where I sprouted from and would like to help you and your family out ASAP as you're waiting for that donor. What a funny way to run into you again....We'll be in touch soon.

im ok i guess... recovering now from today's treatment...

i been laying low for the past month, but i'm now ready to open up about it...

since September UCLA was working on a new donor... she is my wife's niece in Florida... she was an initial match so they had her fly out here for final testing... last month UCLA transplant center disqualified her and terminated our process... i'm back at square one... she was my 10th potential donor so i kinda gave up... needed some time to get my head on straight and still working up the motivation to start searching again...
