I am new to my 2016 Tacoma 4X4 Sport. Today I walked to the truck and I used the key fob to unlock the doors. The truck started on it's on I had not open the door to get in. I didn't know it had remote start. Can't find the operation in the owner manual. Is this normal?

Your dealer probably added it as an aftermarket option. Not normal.

I think some systems will start the truck if you press the door open button X number of times. That's probably what you did.

Some are if you hold down the unlock button for x amount of time.

Did you hit lock 3 times? Seems to be the way for a lot.

That's exactly what I did. Have no idea my Tacoma had that function. Guess somehow the dealer must have installed it.

That's how mine works, and even the new 2 way one they put in, the factory fob will still start it, but the other fob will start and confirm with 2500 foot range.

Most aftermarket remote starts that operate off the factory fob are either lock 3 times, or lock unlock lock.
