I thought I read somewhere that just under 3 quarts of gear oil were needed for this...how much did you end up using?

For a full flush I believe it's 1.59 quarts...according to the guy at NAPA anyway.

East Coast Gear Supply suggests using 85W-140 Lucas Heavy Duty non-synthetic. I'm tempted to try their suggestion however understanding that it would likely void any remaining potential warranty I might have with the front diff (if any which probably isn't much after this mod)

Has anyone noticed this vibration in the steering wheel, say 70-80 mph?

If you're going to do the bearing, change the diff fluid. As you said you're already shot on the warranty if they wanna fight about it at that point.

I tilted the truck in such a way that not too much fluid came out when I pulled the CV axle, So i just topped off what spilled out. Couldn't tell you how much, maybe 1/2 a quart?

I recently had the TSB done for the vibration under braking. The TSB resolved that. They replaced the leaf springs (and added the steering wheel damper) and I a now seem to have picked up a very slight humming/vibration that appears when at a steady state throttle and speeds of maybe 40mph or less or coasting down. The sound/vibration fades in and out rather that a clunking immediate on/off noise. The vibration interval is maybe every 1sec or 1.2sec. Is this a similar sound/feeling to what those if you that resolved your problem with this bushing have experienced? I am wondering if the new leafs they installed created a slight lift and now I have this problem but just a slight lift in the year only that seems a little doubtful.

A vibration that has an interval? Sounds like a wheel not balanced correctly. Plus new leaf springs would only lift the rear, not the front. But hey the bushing is only $60 so I'd say give it a go and let us know what pans out.

It's a cyclic humming that is of an interval too long to be associated with something rotating like a wheel or driveshaft. A high frequency hum at intervals approximately 1 second or a little longer. Sort of like if you were raising and lowering your stereo volume by rotating the knob. The sound fades in and out.

Ok so a pretty easy test to find out if its the needle bearing. Put your truck in 4HI, if the vibration goes away its definitely the needle bearing, if not its likely something else

When you feel the vibration and hear the humming on a straight patch of Road click it into 4hi and see if it goes away immediately

What is the life expectancy on these bushings? If they do go bad can they be removed the same as the oem bearing?

From what I've seen they'll outlast the truck/front diff.

To be fair, a 2 week old banana would outlast a good portion of this truck. Maybe the longevity of a turd gen isn't the best measuring stick.

For anyone doing this, the install tool they sell for like $60 is the same kit you can get at home depot for about $25. Removal tool is pretty much a necessity from ECGS, but I'd grab the install tool from a local store.

Thanks for the reply. My truck only has 4k on it and I was a little worried about how long it lasted. I thought I remember reading somewhere that the bushing can't be removed the same as the bearing is, something about you can't get the removal tool behind the bushing. Not sure how true that is tho.

So true... I have one of these sets sitting around from previous work. It is the same type of tool, just make sure you get the kit that has the proper diameter driver. Here's one on Amazon, https://www.amazon.com/TruePower-20...7&sr=8-3&keywords=axle+bearing+seal+installer
