Noisy Rear Leaf Springs

I recently had OME CS047R rear leaf springs installed. At first they made no noise, same as the stock leafs. After a few hundred miles they started squeaking quite a bit. Is that normal? Can anything be done about it? Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

 

Common problem with Dakars. There was a write up on here about possibly fixing them. I'll try to look for it.

 

Thanks @DustStorm4x4. It seems like they have quieted down some but it still annoys the hell out of me. I have about 1500 miles on them now. They started making noise about 200 miles after install.

Thanks for the help. Ill try some of these remedies and see how it goes. I probably have some motorcycle chain lube around somewhere.

 

These aftermarket springs are weird. I put Deaver J59's on my 2004 RC 4X4 and they were quiet as a mouse. Last summer I Fluid Filmed the underside like I do just before winter every year and decided to Fluid Film the springs. I figured what could it hurt and I thought it would help since these Deavers started rusting about a month after I installed them. They started squeaking immediately after I applied the Fluid Fim and it was REALLY annoying. It lasted for a couple of months and stopped. How something like Fluid Film which is a rust preventative as well as a lubricant could make springs squeak is beyond me but it did.

 

I'm with you, that doesn't make much sense.

 

It sure didn't to me but as sure as I'm typing here it happened.

 

I dont mean to crash the thread but I have a related similar issue with my 17 TRD sport access cab 4x4. I had no noise from OEM setup. @ 5k miles I installed a pair of Hellwig EZ-980 kit “add-a-leafs” to the rear.

A slight fitment issue with insufficient clearance between the OEM Leaf “band” on the stack and the Hellwig U-bolt plate caused me to email Hellwig.

They responded instantly with a box containing a U-bolt with a bit more bend or offset. This placed it far enough past the “band” so I could tighten the plate bolts adequately - and I thought all was rosey.

Then the problem appeared. Whenever I take off “spirited” from a stop, the momentum shift rearward causes a “clunk” on the right rear springs only.

I have triple checked everything, looking for springs rubbing or binding, bolts too loose, bolts/hardware interfering, and even compared the right installation to the left rear - and I see no potential issue or signs of a possible cause.

AI have been unable to reproduce the noise by rocking etc. in my garage, so it’s tough to troubleshoot “real-time”. I now have 11k miles on the truck.

I sent pics to Hellwig and have not received any reply as yet - other than saying they forwarded them with my description to their eng team.

There are many posts everywhere about squeaks - but this is no squeak. It only happens when I take off with enough torque to shift the load rearward. No other ills are happening and the kit rides and handles with/without loading - perfectly.

I would love to hear of anyone else experiencing this - and hopefully a hack to fix it.

I found 1 possible post with a similar description - where the guy made some isolation rubber shims and inserted 2 on each end between leafs, on both sides of his truck.

But I am uncertain that this was the same problem. Again - It only effects the right side.

That looks weird to me. Maybe that's how helwigs are supposed to look

 

It is correct. They are installed over top the OEM pack and under bump stop. The OEM U-bolts securing the set to the rear axle tubes are first removed and re-installed after sliding the AOL in place. Then the two Hellwig offset U-bolts are installed as in pis at each end of the stack.
