Hi guys im new to the Forum, so recently i received a recall letter from Toyota about the Leaf Springs cracking and possibly puncturing the gas tank or damaging the brake lines, so early today i called my Toyota Dealership to make an appointment and luckily they were able to bring me in right away.
I have a 2006 Tacoma TRD with a 3" leveling Kit from Rough Country i beliebe is the brand, so i dropped off my truck for a few hours while they installed the new Leaf Springs but come to find out that supposedly the U bolts do not fit the new Leaf Spring so i was like WTF the girl in charge of the service dep couldnt really tell me why it wouldnt fit and i would think it would be the same design maybe just reinforced or something so i have no clue why the new leaf spring wouldnt fit! Anyways i am supposed to stop by tomorrow to speak to the technician to see what he says! I have a feeling they are just feeding me Bulls**t but we'll see! If anyone has any info please share thanksIMG_3006.jpg

Wouldn't be surprised if they stole his pic or he sent it to them to use. My buddy is a car photographer and his pics get used in internet ads often without permission.

OP, I've read quite a few posts where people had to buy new ubolts. Also, if you have any lift or added leaves in the rear, they won't put those on either.

what style of lift did you use in the rear? if its a block lift the ubolts used would be longer then stock and thus why they wouldn't fit. my truck is currently sitting at the stealership right now for the same recall getting new springs put in, they warned me off the start about blocks however I went the AAL route so the stock ubolts are not an issue if you know what you're doing. seems like they tried nabbing me for a little bit of unnecessary money not knowing I was just underneath it about 6 months ago so I know what will fit and what wont haha. I'm just awaiting their phone call now to go and pick my whip up, they mentioned on the phone that the centre pins used for my AAL would need to be replaced as apparently they are a one time use, they told me $80 for replacement of those, they will be getting an earful once I get there because the last time I checked centre pins were only about $10 for a pair and its not fair to be charging me for labour on something they knew about prior to me dropping my truck off, aswell as something they had to do regardless of whether those pins were scrap or not.. hard to trust anyone these days

Sounds like your AAL or Block that came with your RC lift doesn't work with the TSB Leaf pack and U-Bolts.

Bilstein 5100's w/ Eibach coil overs in front (set at 3" of lift). Front diff drop kit. Extended Bilstein 5100's in the rear. Deaver 2" AAL in rear w/ axle shims. 285 x 75 r 16 Goodyear Duratracks. Wheelers steelies type B, AFE cold air intake. Sway bar delete. All Pro Apex front bumper (rattle canned Rustoleum primer + flat black). Plasti-dipped emblems. Mud flaps removed.
The U bolts for your lift probably weren't stock. Just order some new ones they are cheap.

This is the problem with taking a modified vehicle to a Toyota Stealership. They don't know what you have done to the vehicle so you cant expect them to be able to work on it unless you give them detailed information. Now they are going to use the fact that the vehicle cant be driven in its current state, to charge you $200 for "custom" U bolts and installation labor.

I'm 99.9% sure that RC means shitty block lift. OP is lucky they even swapped his leaves instead of blaming the failure on the lift blocks...

That said they should be able to reuse the U bolts that the truck came in with but they might refuse because those are technically supposed to be a one time use thing... as other guy said just supply your own if so.

And whoever was talking about th center pins. Those come with the new leaf pack so you shouldn't have to pay for them at all.

I got this recall notice too a while back and just upgraded to a Dakar pack and Toyota reimbursed me 100%

Update to my first comment, I just got my truck back, the tsb ubolts worked fine, as well as the centre pin from the new leaf pack worked with my add a leaf they said there was no issues which I already knew there wouldn't be. There was some sort of miscommunication with the front desk people and the shop. It's all figured out and it got it back free of charge. So if you are taking your truck in with an AAL there's no reason you should have to pay a cent. As I mentioned before toyota called me midway into doing it saying they had to replace the centre pin because mine couldn't be reused, and that it would cost me money. But prior to handing the keys over I explained to them exactly what I did to the rear end when I lifted my truck and they said it was fine no problem. So all in all in don't even understand what the confusion was for. Maybe they wanted to charge me for labour for switching the AAL over to the new set of leafs since that technically isn't part of the recall? Who knows

Hello guys, yes that is my truck, the guy selling the running boards posted some pictures that i sent him to display his product, he has some other tacomas in there as well, he is located in South San Francisco and for anyone looking for a more reasonable priced running boards than the Neff bars this is it! Luckily he is only 45 minutes away from where i live and i was able to go pick up a set from his storage building! So for anyone looking for running boards i recommend you check him out!
