Our "lead mechanic" (I'm not even going to start about this guy) was driving a route and went up to steep of a hill, causing the rear tow hooks of the bus to dig in and lifting the rear axle off the ground. Instead of waiting for a tow truck he had a "guy with a tractor" cone over and push him out.

The bucket ended up caving in the rear panel

Greetings everyone. This is my first post in the Northwest group, but I’ve been lurking in the background since late last year when I was first researching the purchase of my 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro. It got delivered in January and I’ve been having a blast when I drive it (I walk to work, so it's not a daily driver). So far my only customization have been a set of Hondo radio knobs, a couple of Quick Fists in the bed, and a sticker of Finn’s First Order helmet on the back slider.

I thought I would use this first post to ask your expert opinions on shells / toppers / caps specifically related to the wet weather in the Pacific Northwest. Coming from Southern California, I have always know them as shells. Also, coming from Southern California constant rain was never really a problem. I’m considering a cab-high, sleek look similar to example in the picture below (Google Image Search).

I found the Snugtop vs. Leer vs. ARE threads in other forums, but I wanted to seek your local advice given the rainy weather all winter up here. Are there any features that I should definitely not forget, or any features that aren’t useful? I like the Leer locker option on that brand, but the Snugtop seems to have a bit better reviews even though it costs more.

I’m not currently considering an RTT, but there is a small chance that I might end up getting one in the future. Should I spend the extra now on a reinforced shell with bars, or can these wait until later? I want the investment to be a long-term one without too many regrets later on.

Thanks so much for any and all thoughts. You’ve been so helpful already by just reading the forums. I look forward to repaying the help in the future.

Thanks to the folks that bought the Pro Link and Treds.

I am going to go through my garage this evening and try to clear some more stuff out.

I know I have a transgo shift kit for an A340 transmission (new-never used), a Blue Sea fuse box (new-never used), some Thule crossbars and feet (old style, for a 3rd gen 4Runner), a Fire Stik "twist to tune" antenna, a cylinder leak down tester (new-never used), and a Scion TC head unit (1809, I think).

Not sure what else, but if anyone wants any of that stuff, let me know. I'll probably just make a classified post, but I don't really want to ship, so I'd rather not broadcast to the whole world.

    Prices will be cheap.

If you even think you might want a RTT, get the reinforcement. Otherwise, you will have to get a new topper or risk damage in the future. As many say; buy once, cry once.
I would not buy a topper without the rails or the reinforcement. The rails can be added later but it's easier and often less costly then doing it later. I engage in kayaking, mtb, hauling materials, and camping with a RTT. If looking for a shell, I would go that route.
For me, I determined that I did not want a shell and opted for rack systems instead (an ongoing transformation).
