i have a 2007 prerunner with a bad front passenger wheel bearing. Yesterday i pulled the whole hub assembly off. I was able to with the help of a friend drift off the retainer but with 2 punches an simultaneous hits with a hammer. The nut came off relatively easy an unscathed.

I bought a moog bearing(was told they very high quality bearings and a direct replacement) already in the housing and found a machine shop that will press off the the old one an press the new one back on for $50. My only question is once I get the bearing back an it's pressed on how important is it to have the nut torqued down?

I realize this would seem like a foolish question but my thought behind it is as follows. Once pressed on it's seated as far as it can be. And in taking off the ratainer nut it appears that it's made to be bent into a key slot on the hub (at least this one I am replacing was)

So if the bearing assembly is seated properly on the hub and the retainer nut is drifted on then staked. I would assumed it's gonna be locked down with no movement possible.

    Thanks For any input fellas

PS after I pulled my truck apart I found out you can buy these assemblies pre built for $275 from different folks. I probly should have went that round but now that my nut is drifted off I gotta get the new bearing on so I can be on the road again.
