Well, I bit the bullet and drilled a 3/4 hole in the roof for the NMO mount. It really wasn't too bad. I have seen others say you have to stay close the shark fin but you don't. I even have the sun roof and there is gap beteeen the glass and the underside of the roof for the sunroof. As you can see below the antenna is located plenty forward of the shark fin.

Thanks man. Took the SWR's on same antenna mounted on fender from a 2.5 down to 1.4. Works better for sure. The smaller antenna looks good on top I think.

I've installed ~20 NMO mounts and had zero issues. They make a rain cap that threads on when selling or wanting to take of the antenna. FYI, mag mounts cause a lot of paint damage as well as creates a gap in the weatherstripping where you run the coax in. Far more downsides if you ask me.

That is a Larsen NMO 2/70SH. It's a dual band 2 meter/70cm. It's quarter wave on VFH and half on 70cm I believe.

Nice installation! Do you have any pics detailing of how you ran the Coax cable? Is the antenna mounted near a cross member?

No pics of the coax. I fished it down to the rear pillar and down to the carpet. I made sure to go behind the side curtain airbag in the rear however.
